2019-2020 USC Transfer

Is USC frat really hard to get bid? I went to my friends college’s frat before and it was rlly easy to hang out w new ppl during rush week. But I heard that USC is lil bit different.

@zettasyntax Thank you for your response yesterday. It was really helpful!

@southernbelle28 I saw on your post on the stats page that you’re transferring from KSU! I am transferring from UGA, but I did my first year at KSU and had no idea that anyone there knew that USC /wasn’t/ referring to South Carolina lol. PM me and maybe we can get together! I know some other people from georgia that are transferring to USC or are already going there, so it would be nice if we could go already knowing a few people!

I was accepted on Friday and on the housing portal when I put in my USC ID then click on “forgot password” like it says to do doesn’t work. Anyone else having this problem? Maybe I need to wait until Monday/Tuesday?

@polololo In the housing portal, within the red bar are two words - one is like “home” and the other may say something like “register”. Either way, you need to go into the one that is not highlighted (the one that may say “register”). Then complete the form. Also, your USC ID is the one that is listed in the FAST area not the one that you have been using. I hope this helps, I don’t remember exactly what the words were.

@polololo Mine took a day to work. First, it said “password cannot be sent” then, maybe about 12 hours after paying my fee, it changed to “password sent” then it took, like, ten minutes for the password to be sent to my email. If it still doesn’t work on Tuesday (since Monday is Memorial Day holiday), I’d call housing and ask.

@CSE111 No I am not, I am a dornsife Psychology/cognitive science applicant

@NavyGuy2019 ok yeah good point. Thats what im thinking.

I’m having a little bit of a freak out over placement tests. Can someone explain them to me?

I don’t have a foreign language as they do not count American Sign Language as a foreign language so, I’m going to assume I’ll be taking one at USC. Because of that, I didn’t sign up for a language placement exam for orientation.

I took Stats 101 at my community college and ended with an A. My orientation sheet says to bring math and chemistry placement test exams. However, I googled it and it said a math placement test is only needed for those who want to take a math class on campus. I don’t want to so, I won’t need to take one, right?

I also never took chemistry but took two sciences (one with a lab, one without). I already plan on having to re-take one or both but, will chemistry be necessary?

EDIT: Nvm, found the information here: https://orientation.usc.edu/transfer/summer/pre-orientation/

@FemmeFilmFatale I’m in the same boat as you with the foreign language because I took sign but they won’t take it, so I’m in Spanish right now. As for math, if your major doesn’t require more, then all you need is the one required for graduation which is your stats. When you go too they set you up with a counselor that will explain everything so I wouldn’t worry too much. If anything, call them and say exactly what you said to us and they’ll help.

@FemmeFilmFatale Oh nevermind I didn’t see the edit part lol you’re good then!!

Now that @FemmeFilmFatale reminded me about the language placement exam, I am horrified for the Chinese placement I signed up for the day before orientation lol. I am definitely going to need to brush up on my notes from class before heading in there! Luckily, I just need to place in the 2nd level to not be behind since I have only taken one class.

Any previous transfer on here taken the language placements before? Are they insanely difficult? If anybody has advice for the Chinese one, that would be fantastic

@vegastransfer I took the Spanish one and I didn’t test out of the language. I’m a heritage speaker of Spanish, lol. I think my particular dialect of Spanish is somewhat of a rural variety and is very different from textbook Spanish taught at schools, so that might have been a factor. Anyway, what tripped me up the most is these recordings they play. They only play them twice, so you really need to pay attention. Also, they focused a lot on politics/government/environmental issues. Not sure how the Chinese one would be, but I found the Spanish one pretty tough.

@zettasyntax Ouch! Duly noted that I need to study big time beforehand lol. According to the articulation histories, the first two levels of Chinese at my school are equivalent to the USC ones. I am assuming that means we covered similar material to what they do at USC, so hopefully I can place into the 2nd level without any issues.

I’m so glad I got out of those tests. I’m such a bad test taker when it actually counts (like placement tests or finals.) It sucks that I have to take these extra classes but I guess there’s no place better than USC.

Also, admitted peeps, join the “USC Memes for Spoiled Pre-teens” group on FB. Best thing since my acceptance.

so about the placement exams…do we or do we not have to take the placement exams? someone on this thread emailed his/her counselor and said that we have to take the placement exams. however, on the pre-orientation website for transfers, it says that we do not need to take the placement exams if our major is not listed. i am in confusion. USC explain yourself lol

@okurrr I think the website part is right. The language one is probably the one most transfers will have to take.

@okurrr You only need to take the language placement if your major requires a language AND you have already began a language at another school. If you have not taken any language courses, then you have to start from the beginning anyway lol.

@FemmeFilmFatale that makes sense to me, but on the module for the pre-orientation checklist says " but you must complete the Checklist in order to register for your courses at orientation".
BTW what did you put for the question that USC Memes for Spoiled Pre-Teens asks for??? i tagged myself wow…and usc accepted me lol

@okurrr I put “I’m just here for a good time. :v:” Pretty sure it’s a joke question but I guess they want you to pick one of the presidents at USC. I googled the names after and that’s what they were, USC presidents.
