2020-2021 USC Transfer

I am not sure I got both request I got Winter Grade Request 2 months ago and then got SGR about 1 month ago, then I emailed the advisor telling him that my quarter would not end until June 16 and final grades would be June 20th and also will have a 2 year AA degree with 90 credits, so technically they could make a descion and emailed back saying you may not hear back until July 1 but hopefully sooner, and I am not sure why they are dragging out its wier

Yeah, there’s no update whatsoever. The last contact I’ve had with SCA was on the 27th when the SCA’s assistant admission director asked me to email them my in-progress coursework (only gave me 1 day to submit it too). I thought I would hear back sooner but here we are.

Oh man, I might have to withdraw my application if decisions are coming out in July (or honestly at the end of this month)… Hopefully, this is the week all the decisions come out!

as of right now, my backup is boston u or just staying at vanderbilt another year. unfortunately, if usc doesn’t give me a final decision before may 31 (meaning i don’t get a SGR), i’m going to have to just stay at vandy because boston didn’t give me an extension to my enrollment deadline and i can’t afford to lose the deposit. i don’t have a job because of the pandemic, so i’m not really in a position to lose a couple hundred dollars. i wish usc was a little more sensitive to these kinds of situations… may 31 is a pretty extreme date. both of the other schools i applied to let me know by late april or early may. i’m sure usc could let us know a little earlier if they really put in the effort.

if you receive an update on your portal before may 31st (say this week) is it more likely to be an acceptance or a rejection?

@jane1230 from what i’ve seen on this thread, very few people have been rejected so far, so an update as of right now is most likely either an acceptance or a SGR. in the past, rejections have usually come out in a big wave at the end of may.

@ejordan02 Why do you want to leave Vandy? They’re one of my top-choices rn, so I’m curious about the downsides of attending.

@Dudu123456 theyre only out before July if you got a spring grade request. If you didn’t get one yet, you can expect your decision to come by May 31 (or even get an SGR)

@ejordan02 im also curious. whenever i see people who attend top 20 unis i wonder what prompted them to want to attend another instead

Is it just me or is anyone else’s admission officer not responding back to emails?

@BBoy99 @mill213 personally, i just wasn’t the happiest at vanderbilt. the academics are amazing, but many of the professors care way more about their research than teaching, and are clearly only teaching so they can continue their research at vandy. in addition, as someone who can’t afford to be a part of greek life and has to work at least 25 hours a week just to afford necessities, i’m often left out and excluded by the girls in greek life. if i’m being honest, greek life is so obnoxious at vandy. i started the rush process and dropped when i realized how absurdly expensive it was, and i’m so glad i did. greek life at vandy is subpar compared to other schools, but it’s glorified for no reason. nashville is also a cool city, but only if you can afford to really experience it. everything is really overpriced. if i have to stay at vanderbilt another year, it wouldn’t be the end of the world, but i absolutely love los angeles and SoCal, and really just want to be happier. i’ve made amazing friends at vandy, and would never discourage anyone from going there, but just know that some professors literally couldn’t care less about their classes, greek life is obnoxiously overrated, and nashville is way too pricey. most people i know there love it; it just turned out to not be my cup of tea. i hope that helped you guys a bit… feel free to reach out with any specific questions!!

@ejordan02 I feel that on a spiritual level. I was at BU and even though I did great academically, the profs there made it very obvious they were there to do research and we were gonna have to learn everything either on our own or from our TAs. I’m from California and being so far away from my family was uncomfortable, which on top of the problems with profs made me leave BU to go back to a California CC to transfer out. I also felt that about the price, it was almost 80k a year for me to go and the whole time I was there I felt the price was not worth the experience.

@Nazarzzzz mine isn’t really responding LOL but I found someone else that helped me thank the LORD

I have had 3 admin officers maybe going on fourth. Not very responsive

@Eieio123 Same with me. I feel like the turnover rate is very high for admissions officers. It is strange

@sleeplessincali the point you made about price is so true. if i’m going to be paying private school tuition, i want it to be 100% worth it, and its just not right now. i’m so glad someone can relate; it’s really easy to feel alone when you’re not happy with your school, especially when everyone around you is having the time of their lives. i hope usc works out for you!!!

Considering that we applied to USC earlier than most colleges with a deadline that was noticably earlier than others, I feel that USC is making the situation overwhelmingly difficult. I’ve accepted that I’ll most likely not be admitted, although that does bring sad feelings, I understand it’s a competitve process.

Other colleges have let us know much much earlier in an attempt to allow us to have adequate time to find lodging, secure our deposits in a timely manner, and over all have a calm mental decision process of what schools are best for us based on aid, acceptance, etc.

I feel that USC is an amazing University, but that they have little consideration for their students, making SGR’s potentially wait until mid June (from what I’ve heard on here) and not telling the general population until May 31st. It is a selfish move, that they know everyone will tolerate because we value them, but considering the deadline is approaching the acceptance decisions by most every college, it just feels like this is really a form of devaluing the people who have applied.

Has anyone heard today?

@Dudu123456 at least you already got accepted at NYU. That’s the next best film school after USC.

I should’ve applied there as well, but they don’t provide good financial aid and their Yellow Ribbon program doesn’t cover that much. So, even with my GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon, I wouldn’t have been able to afford it.

@grapesoda the transfer application deadline was February 1, what are you talking about? That’s a pretty late deadline lol. UCs and CSUs had their deadlines like on November 30 I believe, so we had to wait about 5 months to receive our decisions. Compared to them, we need to wait 4 months to receive our decisions for USC, 5 if we get an SGR. This is normal, especially when you consider previous years lol. Plus, USC literally says that decisions will come by May 31, so technically we’re early. Relax lol
