I should be so lucky, @somemom !

Posting this article about a local nursery with deep roots:

So agree with what these people said.

A few weeks ago I divided a huge Clematis into 3 different locations and all are coming up beautifully. Nothing to it - I hacked away, watered and have added some fertilizer a couple of times.

I have moved Peonies easily when I moved and taken a chunk of one to start another plant in dirt. But I’ve never taken a cutting and tried growing roots.

I’ve ordered an Eden Climber. Now I just have to amend the soil where I want to put it and figure out a trellis.

My geraniums that I wintered in a box with bare roots and no soil are coming along famously. They are starting to look like the quality you buy in the greenhouse in May. I’m quite excited about the savings since the cost of annuals can add up quickly.

I usually soak pepper seeds in water for a few hours. They have a protective coat. They also need warmth. I use a warming mat plus grow lights. I’ve gotten heirloom seeds the past few years for jalapenos, cayenne, and habanero. They seem to work well.

I would like to know more about propagating peonies!!! Is there a youtube on doing this? Wonder if the time is now??

Heat wave yesterday in Chicagoland! Sunny & 60!!!

It felt good to divide and move some perennials and plan my attack against the runner grass.

Note to self: put on your gardening gloves, dummy!

I just split mine. It’s very easy.

I have split them with roots - I took the propagating to mean more with cuttings. I have read that it’s possible for them to root/take by cutting low on the stem near the rhisomes. I think perhaps fall might be the better time to try this though.

@abasket - you might want to look into using rootone to propagate cuttings.

My garden beds and planters arrived!! Yay! Some of my plants need to go outside.

Harvest our first asparagus of the year! So good!

Got my strawberry tower today, too. I need more strawberry plants! My weekend will be busy.

@BunsenBurner Good luck with the strawberry plants. I tried to grow several years but the chipmunks would nibble on one and go to another. I was willing to share a few but they just nibbled on all of them. I took the strawberries out and replaced with blueberries.

Thanks @chmcnm ! We have blueberry bushes surrounded by wire cages. Bunnies… the strawberries will go into a “tower” which will be (hopefully!) our of harm’s way.

I had a lot of luck last year with a hanging strawberry plant. I bought it at the farmer’s market and it was just beautiful all season. It cascaded down with lots of little plants and actually produced strawberries. I loved it so much I hated to throw it away so I wintered it in my garage among straw and now it is coming back beautifully. I planted few of the trailing plants along my border before I tucked the plant away last fall, covered them with straw and they have come back too.

The only thing growing in my tomato deck pots are weeds :frowning:

Yesterday I was able to pick up a few herbs to plant at our local produce market and also got a couple ferns for our patio. Made me so happy!

Today I got an email to sign up for curb side pick up later in May for some vegetable plants I ordered from our local “grows” non profit. So glad I placed this order right at the beginning of stay at home. Growing season is coming!

My magnolia is finally starting to bloom and one whole tulip! ?

@BunsenBurner , I thought everyone up your way went to Molbak’s. https://www.molbaks.com/
That’s where my mom always dragged us!

Northern New England zone 5, and the charge for the tree rose I ordered weeks ago just hit my credit card. I need to get my planter prepped. Have soil and rose food kicking around the house. I could start by finding those.

Still haven’t decided about annuals. I’ll look and see if there’s any place doing no-contact ordering and pickup for that kind of thing and take it from there.

 Molbaks is awesome, but it has changed over the years and has less space dedicated to plants than to gifts etc. They only let people shop by appointment… no go for us! Flower World has 15 acres of plants… that’s where we mostly shop.
