There are enough spaces that as long as you pay your deposit in February you get the housing area you requested. That’s why it doesn’t matter whether you hear in November, December, or January. No need to feet if you’re admitted in January.
That’s also why not keeping the 1/31 deadline for the EA kids is problematic in my book.
Many students won’t or can’t commit until financial aid packages are released. And many colleges don’t release their regular decisions until spring, so people hoping to compare offers likely won’t commit either. Maybe. Possibly. Who knows with the chaos of this year.
If you are accepted to dus can you change your major to engineering before fall start?
@psupls maybe. maybe not. But you can find the RAP (recommended academic plans) for any engineering major. They will have ETM (entrance to major courses). Follow that plan as if you were in engineering. No one is “in” their major until they have met their ETM courses (and the gpa requirement). Pay close attention to those - the engineering pre-reqs are notoriously difficult weed out courses and many kids end up in a different major for exactly that reason.
Last year, class of 2022 decisions thread shows that psu actually missed the 1/31 deadline for many
due to not being able to process “high volume of applications” pushed deadline to 2/7/18?
So this isn’t the first time psu has actually missed decisions deadlines ?
As we have been told here over and over?
Correct me if I read it wrong please
Meanwhile hoping for the waves that have come at the end as we also were reassured be…
???good luck all who wait still!
You know what just struck me? PSU didn’t meet their deadline last year, and then this year they added the Common App and EA, so they had to have a REALLY GOOD CLUE up front that the deadlines would be missed (especially 12/24) because the volume of applicants WOULD increase even more. What suckers we EAs all were!
“Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.”
Well, my personal pity party for “poor PSU didn’t see this coming” has officially ended. I feel sorry for applicants next year if they keep the Common App and/or EA - more innocent grist for the mill.
I just want to chime in here about housing. My nephew was a freshman two years ago. Many of the same issues as now. His housing situation was really inadequate freshman year - a study lounge converted into a room that 5 students shared - it was a nightmare. So I get being concerned. It does matter when you committed. Sure, you’re guaranteed housing but not all housing is created equal!
A coworker’s daughter also committed at the very last minute last year and was given some sort of supplemental housing for 5! Needless to say she’s miserable and is looking to transfer.
“Supplemental housing” (ie., converted lounges) is a real problem and usually given to students who commit in April.
However in February I’ve never heard of a problem or of kids getting supplemental housing.
Except maybe this year…there never was a wait list Jan 24th before either
No one knows this year, so good to manage expectations and be prepared for we who wait
I don’t think so - lots of kids won’t accept their offer. There’s always a lag between hearing of an admission and accepting the offer. There are targets for February and March that then serve to project final results.
Their waitlist is a haphazard way to manage enrollment :s
Last year was different - there were some who didn’t hear right on Jan 31 but that was fixed rather quickly.
We’re Feb 5 if I’m not mistaken; everything has been on another scale this year.
I’m really sorry for the EA kids.
Stay strong, decisions should be announced today, hopefully.
I believe I saw a post that stated psu changed the deadline from 1/31/18 to 2/7/18 “due to high volume of applicants”
It’s on decisions thread 2022 2/5/2018
Is that incorrect? I’m sorry if I read it wrong
Seems like that means more than a few were delayed
Only a few might have posted here
In any case it’s 2/4/2019 and I hope we EA still waiting fir our first decision, Not reconsideration which have already been given to two posters here, will get decisions today
Before midnight
Or waves as suggested based on past ?
Not trying to sow panic, trying to let posters know to research and have eyes open
Calmly
@leigh22 @allieandjoe thanks for sharing your stories of downside of supplemental housing for some freshman, really helps to hear all sides so we can make informed decisions
???good luck to all
when is the deadline to accept for summer session?
Quick question, how do we find out about the financial aid package? Does Penn State offer scholarships to OOS? There was nothing in our admissions decision about it and I couldn’t find any current info on this thread.
Notification of student aid will come in early march if you submitted your FAFSA by February 15th. @caymangirl38
Re: supplemental. It’s not all bad. Some students hate it at first but then come to really like it. Imagine a room with 6 students (some with own bathroom) and then 3 of those 6 transfer out into standard double rooms as space becomes available. There’s no way the three remaining students aren’t going to be living the high life with all that space. Some of those rooms are two-stories high, too and a few have little kitchenettes. Most of our kids don’t share rooms growing up, so it’s a tough transition regardless of where you are. You can hate your roommate in a double room just as much as you hate a roommate in supplemental. What is tough is when you mix a light sleeper with others who are loud and disrespectful. Sorry. Not trying to polish a turd, but supplemental doesn’t have to be bad. Those who stick with it and opt not to move when their name comes up for a regular room can end up with the biggest, best space on the floor…sort of like the floor’s social hot spot.
I’m really confused about housing. I committed to UP for summer a few days ago but when and where do I select my housing?
Housing thread May help? Mattcccc
How many are still waiting? You guys think I should call admissions today? Becoming concerned and annoyed.
