OOS - NY still waiting.
International - Still waiting for decision. Applied early January. At this point I don’t really care I’ve already gotten into other places.
my feeling is they are waiting for May 1st for the waitlist. If the comments in feb is that they have 10% more deposits compared to last year then they are planning to wait. From my kids school kids with high SATs and GpAs are being rejected and are shocked that their choices are now one or two schools that weren’t on their radar
@airway1 You are channeling my thoughts! Earlier I had JUST been thinking to post the question, “Do you think they’ll release people off the Wait List as they come to them, or hold results until one big release date.”
And then I saw your post. I was just coming to the “one big date” theory myself.
we are rooting for you guys! hang in there.
Same–PSU is off our list but thinking good thoughts for all. I hope everything works out for everyone.
@MyaCocoa well just saw on a thread that a few schools in PA which send students to UP ( stating around 50 students) are shocked that they are being offered 2+2 or summer. Also, Michigan state is waitlisting which to me is a shock compared to last year
Commonapp effect?
@MYOS1634 both joined this year… Michigan state went from 33k last year to 65k by Jan
If they accepted same number of students then their acceptance goes from 85% to below 50%
My portal just got updated, the slots at UP and Harrisburg are full, but they offered me an admission decision to choose another alternate campus out of all the Penn State commonwealth campuses. I chose Abington and Brandywine as my two alternate campuses, and hopefully I can get into one of them. Honestly this is not the best result I have expected to be but at the same time not the worst either.
@ChineseInUSA wow that’s early for Penn state seems more deposits then expected…
Wow all the UP slots are full? That is crazy! I wonder if housing is full, I submitted housing in early March (first week), I hope I don’t get supplemental…
@lm3232 you should be fine. They are ahead of deposits to enroll and have a waitlist so students who have not had a decision but are Penn State qualified are being sent to the regional campuses
This admissions cycle is very bizarre. Hopefully some kids will be able to get off the waitlist.
Also @ChineseInUSA if you must choose a commonwealth I recommend Altoona, and Erie, they are the most like full campuses and worthy of paying OOS tuition for. Altoona is closer to UP, so you could go up easier for football games etc.
@LM3232 Oops, I chose Abington and Brandywine instead because these two campuses are closer to Philadelphia and the transportations are more convenient.
Ohh I see, Abington does have a dorm I believe, I don’t know much about Brandywine. I know Altoona is not too far from Pittsburgh, only about 2 hour drive, people tend to like Altoona because of its proximity to UP. It also can stand pretty well as its own four year college, many people like it so much they decide not to transfer to UP. Is this for 2+2? @ChineseInUSA If you like Philly, you may like Temple University, or Drexel University.
Altoona, Erie, Harrisburg are all okay. That may be why they’re announced as full.
Brandywine and Abington are nearly commuter-only and closer to Community colleges. I wouldn’t pay full OOS tuition for them. (Sure, they’re near Philadelphia, but there are many universities that are residential and near/in Philadelphia, and aren’t like these two. Check out if there’s a dorm and how many live there vs. how many attend the college.)
Hopefully you have better choices.
In early May there’ll be a list of colleges that miscalculated yield, with many excellent universities. That would be a better alternative.
I hope that Altoona isn’t full, because if it’s not UP or Altoona, my son will DEFINITELY not be going to PSU. I just checked the language offerings again. Erie/Behrend doesn’t have either Mandarin or Russian. (There’s a chance he won’t go if it IS Altoona and not UP, but too soon to say.)
I think? Trying to remember… that @ChineseInUSA stats aren’t particularly strong? (3.67w/<1200 SAT)… and applied for the business school. Probably a long shot for UP any year, but this year has been brutal. Given the personal stats and the big application numbers, it may not be that Harrisburg is “full” … but for business majors, those stats are more in line with other campuses.
Just me - thinking out loud.
