@ziveli513 I don’t think the experienced posters are comfortable answering your questions since we are not official admissions personnel. There are no official admissions counselors on this board and you have very specific questions. All we can offer is our personal opinions and that created problems in the past from you.
I would encourage you to call Admissions and ask your questions. They are still open for a few more days.
I just want to say that I am sorry for those of you who applied awhile ago and were deferred. It seems unfair, and I hope next year they actually do a real rolling admissions so that you hear based on when you submitted apps. It truly seems like luck is involved. My D got in and I see people with higher stats being deferred.
All: FYI just talked with admissions office, nothing will come between now and 2nd Jan as yesterday was their last day for making decision. They confirmed that they did not have enough time to complete all EA’s. This process of evaluation applications will start to trickle from Jan 2nd. Importantly all EA applications that could not be reviewed (i.e. deferred) will be reviewed first then they will start with the RD applications.
I just spoke to someone in Admissions. She said that it is a good sign to be deferred, your first choice is still being looked at and is not an outright rejection. She would not say if deferred EA applications will be processed before priority applications, just that we’ll all have an answer by 1/31.
Also, she confirmed that any deferred applications will not be processed this week, so no chance of getting a last minute acceptance before Christmas
@AAA124555, @psu2023dad thank you both fir sharing that good info from admissions
Constructive and positive. Yay! Now we can relax until 1/2 lol
Just what we who were deferred need to boost spirits
DH deferred here as well. Will be withdrawing his application because he just got in ED from Lehigh. It would have been nice to see what would have happened at Penn State. He is very happy.
@AAA124555 Thats doesn’t make much sense, because my application currently still says “under review” (since October) and PSU promised at least some kind of decision (even if its a deferral) by December 24th which means that if yesterday was really the last day they made any decisions, they would be going back on their word. I would hope that Jan 2nd thing isn’t true because its not exactly fair of them to send something out saying that by December 24th you’ll have some kind of response and then not hearing anything till next year. I also know that I am not the only one who has an application that is still “under review” too so not rly sure whats going on anymore.
@greencarrot01 I completely understand your situation but please remember I am not in admissions office I just communicated what the admissions office said. My only guess here is their system and the online updating system are not simultaneous, so your online portal will update based on what they have decided till yesterday (just my guess).
As @STEM2017 siad, if you ever have any doubt about your application CALL admissions and ask politely for them to verify your application is COMPLETE. This goes for any college you are applying to, Admissions staff will gladly verify this for you and everyone that calls. Most other questions may not get a straight answer or one you want to hear.
Remember to be polite, the person answering your call has nothing to do with the people making decisions and most likely is being bombarded by not so happy callers…
(DD OOS EA Nursing UP Deferred Jan 31 *notified via portal yday morning)
So I went ahead and called admissions just now, and I was told that there is nothing unusual about my application and that everything looks good and I am still on track to be receiving some sort of response by December 24th whether it is a denial, deferral, or acceptance. So for anyone else out there who is still "under review’ and they applied early action, we should be getting some sort of response by the 24th still.
Just applied on December 17th and finished my SRAC yesterday and SAT should be submitted today. I posted my information on a Chance me, if needed I can post on here as well. Super nervous!
I called admissions, they said that they will use the same EA decision criteria for the people who were deferred, even though they’re now in the regular decision pool.
Hi guys, I’m back. That was a much shorter hiatus than expected for reasons that I can’t go into here, but sufficed to say that the moderators are doing their job.
The EA deferrals are certainly disappointing and depressing. I get it. But keep hope that these are not “deferral” in the true sense…meaning they didn’t look at stats and then defer. Penn State doesn’t really do that. It’s really just poor planning on Penn State’s part by adding EA and common app in the same year and there were just too many apps to get through by Dec 24. Your decision by Jan 31 will then be, admit, admit for summer, deny for major or admit for commonwealth campus.
@jlhpsu welcome back!! I know this is new territory with EA, but do you have any thoughts on how the deferred EA app decisions will be different from priority or regular decisions (I do not know how those two options have worked in the past)
