@lucyvanpelt I like your observation about school districts. We actually moved to change districts when my S was entering HS because we learned they did block scheduling - the kind of block where you might not get science, math, English, foreign language, social studies again for as long as entire YEAR. We felt there was no way our children would learn optimally in that system. So I asked someone in college admissions that I know what colleges think about that kind of system. They said the kids take all of freshman year in college to catch up, they don’t do as well (as a generalization) on entrance exams (because they may be really rusty in some subjects, etc. Obviously some kids do just great in that system and somehow compensate, but we knew it would only add to our kids’ struggles. So maybe even the difference could be a school like that - and oddly this one I am talking about has a great reputation! - but all else equal maybe they would choose an applicant who had been taught subjects more consistently. And we would never know that kind of detail.
@MyaCocoa wow, that is interesting! Thanks for chiming in. I know they talk about how kids lose knowledge over the summer, I wonder if there is a similar effect?

Accepted!! I am so beyond shocked, I was expecting a waitlist, deny, or accept to small campus. DUS Fall 2019 admit, 3.4 weighted GPA 30 ACT Mother is an alumni.

I just checked and there is no change for me. Maybe we will get an 8 am update?? We are getting close to the last day… I’m assuming the next few days there will be multiple waves.
Literally crying my ass off rn. Was accepted into UP for summer session. Wasn’t expecting that at all bc of my below average stats. Thank you to everyone who has helped me get through this process with their comments in this chat. PSU ‘23!!

Congrats @mattcccc ! Glad everything worked out. I just logged into my portal and saw no change, getting impatient at this point not gonna lie, but at least there are some other people in the same boat as me.
Honestly who knows when the updates are anymore. Midnight is definitely one but I know people who have gotten an update at 1 PM, 4PM & 6PM.
It does seem like they may be releasing the remaining decisions by major… last night was engineering and tonight seems to be DUS??

@lucyvanpelt I had asked the HS and they said that knowing the kids forget, they do more review. But the more review you do each time you start up, the less new material you cover. In that system I described you would often have an 8- or 12- month gap. How could there not be a setback worse than summer? For certain things like learning a new language, that system seems impossible. My husband did a lot of research and found school administrators and teachers love the system because it’s easier for them and less work. But I don’t think it’s good for most kids.
Just got accepted for fall at UP (undecided) after waiting since October. I want to offer some hope to all the rest of you who I have been waiting with over the past months. Only one more day! I hope it all goes well for you guys too!
