I grow tomatoes on my deck in containers that are no more than a foot to foot and a half deep. IMO, that soil depth will be perfectly fine for what you’re planting to grow, and the fabric is water permeable so there shouldn’t be any problems with drainage.
Thanks all! I’m already itching to think about spring.
Because it’s around the pool I would want to keep some aesthetic but I thought herbs and other not too wieldy plants would not look too bad.
I’d love to have a raised bed garden outside of the fence - there just is SOO many deer I don’t know that they or other critters (we are on a river so I’ve seen groundhogs and such in the yard) would tackle that netting!
I’ve had luck with deer, but if you’ve got groundhogs, forget about it…
I concur about the groundhogs. I use 3-foot high chicken wire to keep groundhogs out of my garden; but they will exploit any gap between the fence and ground to get into the garden, so I have to use closely spaced stakes to hold down the chicken wire.
This was the pic that gave me the idea of doing the small beds on the stone. I think I could replicate easier with the already formed beds over brick. But I like it! Also, our stone is bigger than this smaller “gravel”.
We actually spread crushed rock around our raised beds to prevent slugs from getting Into them! Slugs hate crawling on sharp, dry surfaces.
