Michigan’s acceptance rate is 16% (not sure about ED) and many applicants have strong gpas and test scores. I think it is a high reach, but apply and see. Just make sure to have targets and safeties.
U Michigan tends to take many of their kids from the same high schools each year. Is your school one of them? That would increase your odds IMO assuming you are on the top end of your high school. I think your major helps you - not biz or enginering. It is still a reach though, but hard to know how high a reach it is from the information given.
ED is the wildcard. Given it is U-M’s first year with it, odds may be higher for those who took the bait. Regardless, it is a reach and hard to assess whether it is a realistic one.
I’m confused. Your other thread is asking your chances at UIUC for brain and cognitive science or Sociology. What do you want to major in? You mentioned pre med previously.
It is typical here on CC to do one chance me thread and ask about your entire school list. A separate thread for each school isn’t necessary.
As for my opinion, your chances at Michigan are low. ED might help a little. UIUC is probably a toss up.
And to add to the confusion…you say you are “premed”.
Hi I am premed! Yes, my parents can cover the cost of both undergrad and med school so I will not be in debt.
Of course you can major in anything you desire and take the required courses to apply to medical school. But I have to ask…why elementary education?
You say your parents can cover the costs of undergrad and medical school on your other thread. Do you understand that this will be $800,000 or more in total? Do they?
But for this thread…do you plan to teach elementary school in Michigan? If not, why are you applying there. Your chances of acceptance are like anyone else’s…low. But as noted, this is the first year of ED, and who knows if Michigan will consider those who applied ED with more favor (since they will be attending if accepted).
Michigan avg GPA for lsa is 3.9 unweighted with a 32-35 Act or equivalent.
If you are in a feeder school that helps. Just look at who got in the last 3 year’s with your stats if any did. How many got accepted and more importantly how many actually martriculated?
Add in that it’s Michigan’s first year at doing this and I can be totally wrong but I would think they will accept students that are closer to their avg.
It will also be very interesting at how many without stats scores they will take. It’s hard to unsee a 34 Act score. But they are TO so… who knows.
It’s unlikely because you r GPA is lower than the average and you’re not submitting a test and 69% did.
If you think going to a top 10 public (not sure how you are ranking them - because one you mentioned isn’t) - but going to Michigan or Michigan State or Illinois or Iowa - neither one will help or hinder you for teaching or med school.
I hope you find the right school for you vs. one you think will impress others.
But given your GPA and your lack of test, I’d say this is a no.
That you can pay $80k+ a year may give you a chance - if they look at that. Last year they enrolled nearly half paying out of state tuition - 3430 vs. 3848 in state.
Please do one chance me - so we can see all there.
It looks like you would be doing field work (I assume student teaching) full time, 5 days a week during year 2. It looks like there are required classes as well- I guess they are later in the day.
It might be tricky to do prerequisites for med school.
