/\ But neighbors reported seeing him constantly bringing in big bags of food and trays of sodas from McDonald’s when he was supposedly the only one living there. Hindsight is always 20/20 but it seems that there were lots of missed clues, and almost more if you listen to that 911 operator…

God bless them

[Kidnap Victim Shuns Family: Michelle Knight Could Be Adopted by Gina DeJesus’ Parents (VIDEO)](Kidnap Victim Shuns Family: Michelle Knight Could Be Adopted by Gina DeJesus' Parents (VIDEO) | U.S. News)

I was hoping something like that would happen. She seemed so estranged, and these women formed such a strong bond, it appears. Everyone has different ways of coping, however, and I wondered whether they’d be able to stay a support system for each other.

I don’t understand the "adoption’ bit at 32…

However, I thought that having Michelle Knight go live with the DeJesus family was in the works when I heard the family members speak. I think it was the aunt who said that the girls had made a family and “Michelle is part of our family now too.” The way it was phrased made me think she was reaching out to Michelle and letting her know she was welcome.

When your mom lives with a man who breaks your child’s arm–and the child is 18 months old–yeah, I think that would be upsetting. And when you lose custody of the child as a result…I think that would be hard to forgive.

jonri- yes I do not think they mean real adoption I think that Gina DeJesus is from a very loving and supportive family and they are telling Michelle that she is welcome. They have enough love and support to share with her.

I hope that Michelle is taken in by Gina’s family. That would be the best outcome for her.

I also hope that the women don’t have to appear in court, unless it would be therapeutic for them.

The police seem to have ruled out the possibility that any other women were abducted by this monster. I thought that one of the women (Michelle?) said that another woman was in the house when she was first abducted?

Heartwarming story:

[Hi grandpa, it’s Mandy - do you still have my car? First words of kidnap victim to her grandfather after being released from Cleveland house of horrors | Mail Online](<a href=“Amanda Berry: Hi grandpa, it's Mandy - do you still have my car? | Daily Mail Online”>Amanda Berry: Hi grandpa, it's Mandy - do you still have my car? | Daily Mail Online)

Jandjdad, what do you think we should do if we see neighbors bringing in a lot of fast food? Police surveillance? Search of the property? What is that a “clue” to?

I think it’s unlikely anything someone saw that they thought unusual would cause one to call the police because who could even imagine something so horrific was taking place!

Pizagirl, It’s a clue that the neighbors have a very unhealthy eating habit and we should send in Jillian Michaels with a swat team of dietitian’s and fitness coaches ASAP.

Dumb question - why are all the detailed news articles always from the UK paper? Are the US papers intentionally not reporting the details?

How do you think these girls, and this child, move forward from here? Do you think it’s possible to piece together some kind of recovery?

Just looking at that guy makes me want to heave, can you imagine these poor girls being beaten, raped and tortured for 10 years and hanging onto any kind of sanity?

I’d be really shocked given the tiny bit we know about Michelle that she’s able to live a normal, healthy life.

I wonder the same thing. It isn’t simple and they were very young. Really, the one who was 14 lost almost half of her life to that animal.

I think that there is a lot that most of us cannot understand and a complexity to the situation that we will never be able to wrap our heads around. As horrible as it must have been and as abusive as the relationship was, having your life dependent upon one person’s whim can create some complicated aspects to a relationship. It isn’t a simple matter of getting free, getting some psychological help and moving on. This experience will have shaped them in ways that are unimaginable.

But just think of the Holocaust victims, the Lost Boys, the survivors of the Pol Pot regime and other atrocities…I’m sure they were and are tormented but many (most?) have lived productive lives with jobs, families, etc.

A tiny bright spot was these girls were together. They could rely on each other to some degree.

True but i think that when we say “normal” lives we need to consider that for every person on the planet there is a different definition of normal. I think that when someone has been traumatized, it is so important to acknowledge that part of their lives and to understand that it will always be a part of them. Sexual violence and abuse carries the added burden of shame that the victim has to carry (undeserved of course, but real, nonetheless). Especially when their tragedy was so public. That is a lot to resolve before you can move on. I hope they can and I hope that the expectations of those around them are such that they let these women grieve the loss of those years. I hope they let them work though it at their own pace. That pace might differ for each of them.

When you couple that with reports of police investigating naked people in the yard and screaming upstairs at house that supposedly had one occupant, maybe it’s worth investigating. Look at the totality of the circumstances, not just the huge food orders but everything…Or maybe we should take the attitude of the 911 operator who responded to Ms. Berry’s call that she had escaped the kidnapper by telling her there were no police and when one became available, they would send one out…
It’s easier to turn a blind eye like the police did when one of Dahmer’s victims escaped and Dahmer convinced them that it was a lovers quarrel and went on to kill many more…

jandjdad- the naked girls in the backyard calls appear never have been made to the police.
In fact it is now reported that the women were only out of the house twice in all that time and only briefly. The information I have read makes no mention if they were clothed or unclothed either of those times.

It was clearly on them to escape. Apparently he used to trick them into attempting escape and being right there to catch them, then beat them, that they eventually got too afraid to try. Imagine if that neighbor didn’t happen to see her hand waving out the front door. The older I get the more I feel like police are merely crime statisticians and evidence collectors after the fact.

It is very unusual for police to be able to stop a crime in progress.
