<p>mom60 - My D will be applying to Texas A&M, Auburn, USC (South Carolina), University of Georgia, SMU, TCU, Baylor, University of Tenessee, Fresno State and Kansas State. The list may change before the end of the summer, but that’s what it looks like now. She also has one school she is applying to that has nothing to do with riding that she loves (and is in New York City!) in case she decides she does not like the schools she gets into for riding. Our D knew when we bought her the level of horse she needed to compete at 3’6" and be successful so that college teams would look at her that this horse would not be going to college with her. It is very difficult to ride on the team (if you ride NCAA DI) and have your own horse at college and compete. Believe me when I say there will be many tears next summer (and not just from D!) when D parts with this horse, but she has known this from the start.</p>
<p>Good luck to your D in finding the right school. It sounds like Cal Poly would be perfect and she would be able to take her horse along. We know several girls at SLO who are very happy and a couple of them have their horses with them at barns nearby. My D has been riding for 11 years and competing for almost ten years and although she loves horses she knows that she does not want to be a trainer or have a farm. Riding in college is the opportunity for D to spend 4 more years competing before graduating to the real world!</p>
