50th birthday celebration ideas

chinablue…an easy thing for them, rather than planning an “event” would be to take you out to a very special dinner, someplace you may not ordinarily get to go to, after work.

I also had another smaller celebration with H the week before my birthday. (The NYC trip was sister’s idea–I’m more of a cabin in the woods type.)
This was what I really wanted to do to celebrate: H and I drove (a few hours) to where we used to live. Had dinner, shopped, stayed one night in a hotel. The next day we went to a new art museum there, looked around our old stomping grounds, put flowers on a relative’s grave there–and came home. It was a quick getaway, but nice for us since we still have young kids at home. Inexpensive, low-key, but memorable.
