Good article on how to help (and what to be wary of)

Time for the world’s largest humanitarian organization-the US military-to swing into action. Thoughts and prayers with those in Haiti.

“Officials at a Florida college continue to pursue “all options and avenues” to locate 12 students and two faculty members who had been staying at a 4-star hotel in Haiti that toppled following Tuesday’s devastating earthquake.”

I just donated through PIH as well, and also made an additional donation through Save the Children, another very reputable charity, for which I’ve been a sponsor for the last 30 years. Here’s the link: [Save the Children Launches Emergency Relief Effort in Haiti](http://www.savethechildren.org/newsroom/2010/haiti-relief.html)

Another donor here through PIH; it was sooooo easy and quick.

“easy and quick”

Just donated. Thanks for the link. I read about Paul Farmer’s work in Tracy Kidder’s book.

Thank you for the information, JustAMom. The article is very informative. I didn’t know whether helicopters lauched from ships could reach the devastated area. It sounds as if they can, since there have already been evacuations. I also learned that the airport in Port-au-Prince is operating - this is certainly good news.

Thanks! Another just donated through PIH.

Read Mountains Beyond Mountains several years ago when S’s university sent it to all incoming freshman. Paul Farmer is a truly extraordinary person.

That’s a total of 11 to

What is frightening here is the number of people in power who have been reported either missing or killed. While I don’t necessarily think their lives are more valuable than the indigents, it will create more chaos when those who are in the position to be more respondent in these situations are MIA. Just saw in an interview that the president of the country has no place to sleep. Heard the archbishop of Haiti is dead, and UN workers are unaccounted for.

Many of the doctors working in Port au Prince were in the collapsed hospital. Horrible.

CNN just posted a picture of our orphanage director’s home in Les Cayes (Picture #8). I’m hoping that the school and orphanage might be o.k. or he would have posted more pictures.

Okay musicamusica. My H and I were going to donate somewhere and never finished the conversation before I had to leave for work. PIH seems to be a good one. We’re in.

And oh. H is on the USC faculty, so USC is covered today. :)

Number 12, my fav.

Count my contribution in. Those poor people, you just know that it will get even harder in the days to come.

OMG! I don’t know how to link it but google what Pat Robertson is saying about how Haiti deserve this because the islanders made a pact with the devil in the 1800’s. Nice sense of compassion.

that’s 13 to (go Trojans)

I need to leave for the day. Please count the contributions and keep this thread at the top of the forum. This is a rare chance to save at least one life with just $25.

Anyone who says things like that about victims of natural disasters (like the people who said similar things about New Orleans) is an evil person, no better than Fred Phelps, and should rot you know where.

count me in, donated to PIH this morning.
As stated in previous post, I had been reading Mountains Beyond Mountains for the past three days, and just can not believe this has happened.

Garland, and others who know people serving in Haiti, may you hear hopeful news about from those in Haiti.

I also donated online to PIH today.
