I haven’t read anything on gomids.com that advocates that football players shouldn’t have to wear uniforms, go to class, etc. Miss formations especially evening meal during the season, yes…makes sense. I had the ability to sign in during my in-season sports so that I could stay later at practice, shower and then get to the meal. I also remember bowling with my classmates and company officer on Wednesday evenings as a firstie. Great camaraderie for us 1/C but again, I guess we all could have been studying more including the guys that went Nuke. I also use to surf in Ocean City with a underclassman, he went Nuke and commanded a sub a few years back. It doesn’t hurt to have some time to have some other interests. It definitely made him much more interesting to hang out with. If the Academy wants studious one dimensional students then perhaps they shouldn’t be recruiting the student-athlete and just concentrate on the student. Over 90% of the latest incoming classes were varsity athletes in high school. More than 50% were members of NHS, 10% stood no. 1 in their class. They’re not stupid, don’t need to be lead by the hand 24/7 and after Plebe year should be able to figure out when and how to study. Plebes need the mandatory study hours for another reason…to be secure from the upperclass for a few hours to concentrate on studying. Definitely, a valid argument. The rest is nukism. I’ll go back to gomids now.
