8th grade cut day?

I should have had faith in the teachers. They handled it with grace and common sense. I had just never heard of such a thing before. It was not something that happened with my older kids. Although both had official senior no school days. But I’m not sure if they count as “skipping” because both were school run events like a barbeque for one and a beach party for the other which involved official chaperones and facilities provided by the school.

This is true. In my borough, one of the locations to which truants are brought by the police is a church on the next block from me. My oldest daughter got picked up several times because (a) she had gone to private school which ended in early June, rather than late June as the public schools, and (b) she looked very young after she graduated.

Kids really do get picked up here if they are wandering the streets during school hours, so my son’s school is diligent about giving official passes if the kid is going to an activity or sports competition during school hours. The kids get taken to a location and the parents have to pick them up and provide explanations and proof.

Just as I predicted – someone’s cool notion that never came to pass! ;)

Yes YDS, you were exactly right!

I’ll bet that not only were some parents surprised to find out that there was a test, but others had no idea that the day off was not sanctioned by the school.

I wouldn’t have allowed it in high school or middle school. It was a moot point because our district gives a whole month off to seniors for an end of the year capstone project, which can be a job, an internship or a supervised project of some kind. I think it’s specifically to avoid the whole end of the year seniors-go-wild thing and for the most part, it works pretty well.

My youngest didnt have an 8th grade skip day. They did have a class party at a local park where the classes walked while parents set up. ( small school)
Her senior year they had spirit days instead of “skip” day - the themes I have the impression were thought up by the students.
So while the school would encourage students to dress up in jamas, or as twins, the seniors would plan something else. Pimps & Ho’s, I noticed was a stated theme.
Charming.

Absolutely not!

Thank goodness I think that was the year or two before her.
When she was a senior it was tie dye or something equally stylish.
