A Bit Embarrassing...Elongated Uvula

This isn’t totally true. The main job of the uvula is similar to a lymph node AND when swallowing, covers up the nasal passage so no debris gets in.

Happens to me a lot…especially after tonsils were removed in my late teens. It’s just where the infection settles for me. Usually disappears after 5-7 days. It’s annoying and uncomfortable, but not dangerous IMHO.

Brought to mind an old SNL skit…

<a href=“SNL Transcripts: Elliot Gould: 05/29/76: Babs' Uvula - SNL Transcripts Tonight”>http://snltranscripts.jt.org/75/75vuvula.phtml

Oh geez…just saw how old this is. Duh.

Question: how old were you before you learned that the tonsils were not the same as the uvula? 8-}

I was just reading this thread and said, “Wait, there’s a Christmas Catharsis thread?” Then I looked at the date. :)

@arabrab‌ was your comment for me? If so, I’ve never thought they were the same :slight_smile: Had tonsils out and in subsequent years have had issues with swollen uvula…may be coincidental, may not.

When I was a kid I thought the uvula was the tonsils. I don’t remember exactly when I found out where the tonsils actually were…

I think I was in my late 20’s before I found out that it wasn’t part of the tonsils.
