I wouldn’t call the current pricing model “deceptive” either, but there is room for better transparency. Either be crystal clear about merit awards up front (publish a GPA/test score matrix like the big southern state schools), or eliminate most merit and just drop the sticker price like Lasell, CS are doing.
I agree that these smaller, less selective NE schools aren’t drawing $70k+ full-pay NESCAC or Ivy League applicants and need a better pricing model, which is what they’re shooting for. I think it’s smart on their behalf and their survival may very well depend on it, as you mention.
