<p>as a chinese, i think chinese cuisine needs to evolve, especially here in america. it’s the same old thing over and over. sometime i’d love to find an expensive chinese place that is good! as of now, they are mostly pretty cheap and they are good for the price. the few that are expensive serve mediocre food (for the price) to people who probably don’t have much taste but have the money. it’s sad that while people eat chinese food a lot because it’s still kinda tasty for the price, chinese restaurants rarely come to people’s mind as far as “fine dining” goes.</p>

<p>I’m not Japanese-- you don’t need to be Japanese to speak or read the language (though it is a fair assumption.) I’ve lived now in about 5 or 6 major cities, including Los Angeles, DC, Tokyo, San Diego, Busan, and a few others. I didn’t have to eat at every restaurant in each city to know that some just generally were… better.</p>

<p>Oh, I completely agree. And it’s probably not a coincidence that that’s where I’ve spent my visits. Ika-meshi! Gyutan! Eki-ben paradise!</p>
<p>UCBchemgrad, Gordon Ramsey is very talented. His restaurant in London is a borderline 3 star restaurant. If it were a 2 star restaurant, it would be underrated, but at 3 stars, it is slightly overrated.</p>
<p>Hanna, I agree that Japan is a country of foodies, but I would not say it is more so than France or Italy. The French and the Italians really know and love their foods. Each city, town or village has its own history and cuisine and it varies substantially with the landscape. Truly amazing. I think France, Italy and Japan, along with (please don’t laugh folks) Germany, are quite possibly the greatest foodie nations on Earth.</p>

<p>Well, it was only what, like 15 years ago that Chinese food started getting good again? Thanks to the CCP, a lot of culinary arts in the PRC got destroyed.</p>
<p>Sam, I have never been to China, and cannot claim to be well versed in the Chinese culinary arts. But Germany, to many people’s surprise, has a very rich culinary tradition.</p>

<p>y7bbb6, You probably want to apply to schools that discount Freshman grades. Schools like Michigan, MIT, Princeton and Stanford to name a few. Also check out Cornell, Northwestern, Penn and the University of Chicago. Emory and Vanderbilt are also very good. </p>
<p>Among LACs, check out Carleton, Davidson, Grinnell and Vassar.</p>
<p>As an aside, don’t apply ED to a university unless you are sure you want to attend. ED is binding. Besides, contrary to popular opinion, applying ED does improve chances for admission. Applying early does not make it easier to get in. All it does is speed up the process.</p>

<p>mit princeton stanford and penn are way out of my league, but other than that, i applied to most of the schools you listed. </p>
<p>georgetown interview in 1/2 hour… blah! they make it so blatantly obvious how important their interview is. not good for my nerves!</p>
