A few days in LA

Up thread, there was a mention of Jay Leno at the Comedy and Magic Club in Hermosa Beach. S, dau in law and I drove up from San Diego yesterday for his show and a day in LA. Per a question up thread, Sea Harbor in Rosemead had almost Hong Kong level dim sum. S researches these things!

We also spent time downtown, and walked at sunset through the fish market and along Redondo Beach. The show was a great birthday treat for S. We used to watch Jay Leno as our special time together after his sisters went to bed. Though I was hoping for a bit more of typically apt political commentary, he was very good. Thanks, Claremontmom! Would never have known about this if not for CC!!

You’re welcome, @“great lakes mom” ! Glad you enjoyed the show.

Yes, when our S has a meeting in LA, he always stays at a hotel at or near the meeting and drives there the night before. He says he would rather drive tired and sleep where the meeting will be than risk whatever crazy traffic he may face in the morning/day. He finds it much more peaceful to drive at night, so when we get together with him in LA, he usually leaves just before we all decide to go to sleep, to get to his hotel & meeting place.

@mom2and @anomander My secret is I don’t drive during the week. I’m lucky that I live and work near metro stations. I know a lot of people who use Metrolink for the same reason.

The last time I was in LA, I had to get an earlyish flight out of LAX while we were staying in Pasadena. There were three of us and we whizzed to the airport in record time. Traffic is much worse here! And no HOV lanes! We have one section of parkway that starts backing up at 2 pm. I can’t figure out who those people are. I take local roads a lot - they take the same length of time and the drive is prettier and less frustrating.
