A Meta-thread to save us all time

oh my if he truly has found the cure for cooties he surely won’t not need first grade—why with those stats he could probably get funding at the Institute of Cootie Research in New Haven. He will have a couple social issues, being he’s so much shorter than the other students, but they’ll adjust to him.

Momof3sons
Definitely send your son to Colombia.

AFAICT, ECs are important for HYPSCMBP type schools. FWIW, DD and DD just returned from USFANACF and DS is off to PSOCA in DC this weekend. I’m sure you can imagine how thrilled we are. DS has also been very involved in CDI and DD really focused on HPFTH this fall; much more rewarding than last year’s BFF, but hey, no need to preach to the choir here, right?

IMHO, both kids are on track, but DW has other ideas. She thinks BKWBBOITJSHADTHW. Clearly she is on “Path B” here, IYKWIM.

What should I do?

Oh, and please try to be clear in your responses.

can’t stop laughing Sherpa

At T.I.T.S, being short of stature is considered to be advantageous, Lindz…just an observation. Of course my son did not get in. I should have bought those flash cards for the first time he took the ACT in preschool. DANG. STUPID STUPID! (banging head on desk).

Last I heard, T.I.T.S. had a DD rating.

ACT in preschool, kitkat? —I was told they couldn’t take it til they got into First Grade. I just tried to call the Dean of Standardized testing to get her explanation on this but she’s busy grading the finger paint Renoir imitations in the Infant class. I just knew I should have put him in toddler readiness

I find the cootie irradication project disturbing, and I’m sure adcoms will as well. Alternatively, if he could apply behavior modification techniques to the cooties so that they convert leftovers from snack time into biodiesel, he’d be onto something. The destruction of members of any species, in this day and age, is just hopelessly misguided. Hope this helps. Good luck on your journey.

This wrinkle just in for violadad:

Carleton has had a Druid grove since the 70’s. Would this be a hook for your D or turn her into an over-represented minority? Do they have all the Druids they can use? And use for what? Ewww! Or mabe Ahhhh!

^^bethievt, Do you think that violadad’s D’s eventual application for a DDS (Druid Divinity School) will be adversely affected by attending U Tasmania, where the team names must be some variant on the Tasmanian Devils?

The Methodists and Quakers at Duke seem to have no problem with the “Blue Devils,” but that’s a private school. It’s now commonly agreed that Any Private School is better than Any Public School.

T.I.T.S. is now running the risk of overexposure. Up and coming hotbed of intellectual fervor is Joint University for Global Sciences.

sherpa - sour grapes? Just because your S/D is a slacker doesn’t mean I can’t be justifiably proud of my brilliant S.

Garland,

I don’t think so. DS and his mentor have done all the background research. No cure for cooties until DS’s breakthrough.

If there was a cure, why did my son’s class pay lots of money last year to go to Third World Country to help those kids struggling with cooties?

See this

[YouTube - cooties, there is no cure](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1wEMKP26s4)

If it’s on the Internet, it must be true.

Aren’t the T.I.T.S. sports teams called the “Mountaineers” (or was it the Peaks??? I forget)?

Back in my day we gave cootie shots on the playground…

vballmom - please accept my apologies. I haven’t really been myself today ever since I realized that HarrietMWelsch might achieve CC full membership before I do. It hasn’t been easy. I hope you can understand.

I also forgot to tell you all that if you’re getting those notices for Sleep-Away Camp, just throw them in the trash.

Ds went to Sleep-Away Camp for a week last summer, and there was nothing, I repeat, nothing that he could use to put down on his resume or even use to get ahead next year at school.

The sing alongs did not stress any music theory, not even ethnomusicology.

The camp fire marshmallow roastings had no discussion of the oxidation and reduction reactions involving glucose, oxygen and heat.

And those crafts sessions–I was hoping for some ‘Outsider Art’ project (it was, after all, in the rural South) but instead got a lousy macrame potholder.

I just don’t understand why anyone would do this. Surely there is something wrong with our culture. I feel bad for kids who do this year after year.

Well, skrlvr, the cootie catcher also doubled as a fortune teller (depending on how you folded the paper.) Foretelling the future should be a hook, don’t you think?

gcnorth,

A superstition only. No studies have shown that cootie shots administered by other children on the playground did any better than a placebo.

I can’t believe no one has picked up on Quant Mech’s brilliant solution to violaD’s little dog incident problem (post #109).

I bet QuantMech went to an Ivy. Those are the people who have all of the brilliant ideas and whom we should follow. With all due respect to Queen-of-Hearts-High-Cost-Professional-College-Counseling, Inc, I think a parent is a fool to pay those kinds of predatory fees. You can learn everything you need to know - for free - here on cc. Why, you can learn it all right here on this thread.
