A Meta-thread to save us all time

Exactly, HarrietM. Which reminds me of another one of my pet peeves. Colleges making a Big Deal about the community service opportunities for their students.

Hello! They’re already IN college! Why would they care about accumulating more CS hours when they don’t even have a box to fill in on an application? Talk about wasting time!

Oh, wait. Do they count CS hours when applying for IB and consulting jobs?

But the question is, are tier one sheets worth it anyway? What if you can’t find any BB&B coupons?>>

Once you go Frette, you’ll never go Wamsutta.

Parents, I need help.

It’s finals week for DD. She IMed that she was taking a nap and would I call to wake her at 9:47 (I always call to wake her. This is challenging on those nights she wants to wake up at 4:30 a.m. for sorority rush, but, it really isn’t any more painful than my C section was, so, I am so happy to help)

Any way, I’ve been calling every 25 seconds for the last 6 minute and she is not answering!!

I don’t know what to do. I haven’t felt this panicked since she almost didn’t have a date for her prom (!) Any ideas???

Deep breath.

OK . Still no answer. She is sort of a deep sleeper, but it has never taken so many calls before, well, except for after that tri-delt party, but, still…

mafool is this for real?

(no, not at all-sorry)

OK, OK, she just called. I guess the SWAT team might have been a little more than necessary…but how did I know?

Turns out that–and this is sooo sweet–she was in the shower! And I didn’t even remind her that she didn’t shower before her first class this morning. LOL

So true, jmmom. I fail to see why there are ECs offered in college, for much the same reason.

Other than the ones that afford obvious bragging rights, such as coming with a team jacket that says One Time I Wrote an Article for the Crimson, or something like that.

And don’t be silly. They don’t need to ** apply ** for IB or consulting jobs! They just do the special handshake, and they’re in!

^^jmmom, Thanks for the compliment in post #220! But now I can’t remember whether you’re one of the people on CC who know that I went to a State University (not even a flagship). Furthermore, there is a missing comma in post #220, which is driving me nuts!

Also, I was going to post, “Sheesh, what a bunch of maroonic comments, especially post #106.” But then I noticed that I wrote post #106.

^^mafool, I have the market cornered on panicking. Ask anyone. Especially DD.

Wait, I meant post #109 has the punctuation error, not #220. See, there is not hope for State University graduates!

mafool, it’s so nice when a mom and a daughter are close like that!

Wait, my immediately previous post is idiomatically incorrect English, too.
Can I keep boosting my post number in this obvious way?

Come on, QuantMech. Nobody around here does stuff like that.

Rats! I was intending to correct the last post, too! Back to the substantive comments.

Today UTas sent D an email (which I read while she was in the slammer waiting for the bailbondsman). Seems Associated Press had picked up the dog incident from the local paper and the Dean of the Conservatorium saw the story.

They’ve doubled her free ride! Not only are they awarding her an automatic summa cum laude performance degree from the Conservatorium, they’ve apponted her Full Professor of Population Control. They say her unparelleled skill with the didgeridoo will break new ground in controlling the cane toad population. They said something about potential Nobel Prize nomination if the program works.

She’s devastated and does not want to attend UTas at all, even with the headline performance they’ve scheduled for her at the Sydney Opera House. (She’s played it half a dozen times already, claims the acoustics really do suck.)

More than ever, she wants to take her gap year, stop performing completely and reapply to Yale, but changing her major from quantum mechanics to Old Norse.

garland, that was a great point about fit.

Anyone offhand know if ritualistic religious cutlery is ok on campus at Y? Her knife used in ceremonial sacrifices is a family heirloom and she needs it for religious observations. Are there many students on campus for the winter solstice or do they all go home for break?

Any half Polynesian/half Inuit adopted professionally performing didgeridoo players with a double free ride, a guaranteed degree, full professorship Nobel prize nominees have any advice?

I tried searching, but couldn’t figure it out.

Edit: Come on people May 1 is a couple days away!

(violadad, you are killing me!)

^^violadad
Wow, I hope that the incompetence of my recent posts has not contributed to your daughter’s change of direction from quantum mechanics to Old Norse. But then the career opportunities are much better in Old Norse, in any event.

violadad, SO glad you checked in with an update!

The knife should be fine, as long as she cleans it under a full moon. Also, the winter solstice thing? Two words: binge drinking. I hope I’ve made myself clear.

Just because it’s historically accurate mead, doesn’t make it okay.

OK. Careful. Adcom here.

Well, I can’t believe I missed this thread and are coming in so late.

We have told you, and I will repeat, this is a HOLISTIC process. YOU CANNOT predict whether or not a half Inuit/half Polynesian didgeredoo playing iditarod almost champion will or will not be admitted. That’s our job, and our secret, but I can assure you we will read each application for 30 seconds before we make a snap judgement.

No it is not the GPA, SAT scores, rec’s or EC’s. Sometimes it’s the type face; New Times Roman gets tiring.

At our school we like type faces that have a nice H. (Who said it’s Harvard.)

But no, you can’t count on that. That was last year.

I will say that we elite institutions do follow the posts on CC, I would worry about you.

Oh, OP – I CAN say that at our school neither Path A or Path B will work. (And no, don’t be smug. Path C and Path D will not work either.)

With our under 10% admit rate, that’s the point! Nothing works.

But violadad, can you get me tickets to the iditatrod? And does anyone know good travel options to Alaska? It’s going to be my new admissions region.

mythmom- if you’re a Y adcom, I can get you Iditerod finish line (heated) seats, airfare to AK AND Sydney, Green Room admission passes the next time she plays.

PM me with your address, and I’ll include a blank, signed check. Fill in what you need to get her in. Just don’t go more than triple the amount I sent directly to Yale. It’s D’s account, I don’t want to it bounce. Dammed if I’m paying for it.

violadad: Well, in that case, I think I might be able to get her in as a development admit.
