Despite my best intentions, I knew this thread would suck me in. Let’s clear up a few things:

1) While a bass of the large-mouthed variety, I am not a fish nor do I drink like one. I have, however, consumed both the piscine and zymological varieties in moderation.

2) I do not recall wallowing in any gutters, but that proves nothing. I will admit to having partial recall of stumbling over a few without actually falling in.

3) The screen name is multi-layered. Daughter plays bass, I sing bass, I sometimes am base (at least when not being acidic), I enjoy drinking the ale and eating the fish (whether or not in a stew with shellfish (the fish, that is, not me (and I have been know to be both in a stew and a bit shellfish))). The shoes are not my style. I am a follower of the ball game. I frequently work with both flat and relational data structures. I have never played Zero Wing. Somewhere in my house exist a bass violin, a couple of bass bows, bass accessories ranging in size from a lump of rosin to an eight foot tall flight trunk, an electric bass guitar and the associated bass amp and speaker, three bass flutes - one modern, two renaissance copies, three or four bass recorders, a bass crumhorn, a bass rackett, a bass gemshorn, accordions of both the 80 and 120 bass variety (and that’s only counting what’s here when daughter is away at school).

Now I’m going to have to report this post at the next 12-step meeting.

^^You’ve got the bases all covered there, musically. I can only meekly hint that instead of the 12-step meeting, you branch out into Irish Step Dancing. Sounds like everyone in your family thumps and pounds, but maybe your downstairs neighbors would like to join in. Share the joy.

Well, my wife and I are in an Irish band and have played for step dancers. I handle the thumping and pounding and wife takes care of the treble (and is she ever good at causing that.) Believe me when I say that you would not want to see me attempt step dancing. My insurance would not cover the collateral damage done to innocent bystanders, much less my own medical bills. Fortunately, we have no downstairs neighbors here in suburbia.

I do hope that you have your ph checked on a regular basis.

One thing I must add to the information provided above in point (3) is that the bass violin (along with all violin family instruments) has an internal supporting structure. This oblong piece of wood is attached lengthwise inside the belly, in the same pathway as the strings, following the G string.

For the uninformed, this is called the bass bar.

BassDad clearly missed the base here. When counting bases, please do it accurately.

Speaking of that, I’ve heard that colleges don’t discriminate based on your color on the ph scale, but my kids are the most beautiful shade of purple, well at least the one who’s fathered by Poseidon is, and the other is a lovely shade of violet, think Faberge egg.

Will this help or hurt them in admissions. And again, my question, which is the frontrunner?

Well, I never claimed that I listed all of them. In fact, I didn’t even scratch the surface. I forgot the bass viola da gamba and the singing Billy Bass that was a Father’s Day present many years back (it was a hoot the first two or three times it went off, but Billy is quiet these days on account of we never saw fit to replace his batteries.) As you may have guessed, Billy spends most of his time in our basement which is of the partially finished variety.

We also have about a gazillion back issues of magazines and newsletters that have the word Bass somewhere in their title (and none of them are about fishing.) Not to mention all of the audio recordings in various formats that either recorded someone playing a bass part, a non-bass part on a bass instrument, or have any of a number of words printed on the materials that came with them. Then we could get into the printed music and books.

And if the image of me step dancing was bad enough, we are not going to go anywhere near the topic of G-strings.

BassDad: Can you play “Air on a G-String” on the bass? While wearing one? I think that would be a great audition ensemble. Forget about sending the kid to college. Dude, it’s our time?

I would have thought that Faberge egg type coloring would be more apparent in the offspring of Romanov descent.

Actually, based on skin tones, I would suggest neither child follow a law path. Various hues, however subtle, might be construed by any court as “grandstanding”.

Shade variations are far more tolerated in the medical fields.

As I said earlier, the Romanov/Poseidon coupling has genetic factors favoring success, but I won’t rule out letting the other half breed have a stab at surgery.

Oh violadad: You’re so silly. I’m a MOTHER. MOTHERS make mistakes.

And I can’t always remember who was the father of whom. And believe me, if you’d had my life, you wouldn’t be able to, either. And none of them, and I do mean NONE is going to give me any college money at all! But the Profile calls for the entire Romanoff fortune and all the fruits of the sea.

I do apologize. And so close to Mother’s Day.

One thought on the money issue… if Poseidon is no longer in the picture, I’d look at FAFSA only schools, avoiding those that use CSS or institutional methodology. Take advantage of them not looking at non-custodial parent finances.

At least Poseidon would not have to file a business supplement. Fruits of the Sea went bankrupt years ago on lackluster sales of their maritime-themed, dolphin-free underwear in tin cans and the tuna fish that they sorted by size and packaged three at a time in plastic bags.
