Andale, thank you. If there WAS an intent to this thread, please enlighten us.

Wahoo!!! And I am taking post # 1000!!! To say… nothing!! :D

But now we have to make our beds for a week and take out the trash and all that!!
Small price to pay…
THANKS MODS!!!

Wow-- missed post # 1000! You guys are fast, eh violadad???

I think this thread had something to do with pathways. Or perhaps Pathmark. Personally, I prefer Trader Joe’s. You get so much more individual attention there, as well as more for your money. Not to mention the much better checkout person/customer ratio.

Yes, I’ve been raising my sons to be Trader Joe’s material. Have you?

(And Mods, thanks much. It’s been a rough week chez Welsch and the kindness of your decision is truly appreciated.)

Harriet-- can they start a subsidiary–Pirate Joe’s?

Absolutely. It’s affiliated with the Seven Seas-ters.

^^^ That was a funny “yoke”, Harriet. It should be sanctified. It is a Holy yoke.

Rejected responses: 1. If I’d read that while driving, jym, I’d have made the car skid-more. 2. Vassar matter with you, anyway?

Meanwhile, I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on S2’s essay title: Where Has the Rum Gone?

Too risky?

OK…we have a “friend” who needs some advice. They think they have the ultimate hook. Their daughter wants to apply to a big Ivy (as opposed to a little Ivy). The dad and mom are both alums of the big Ivy. BUT they just don’t think being a double legacy is enough. SO…they are planning to get divorced…and each will them marry other alums from the bit Ivy. This will make the daughter a quadruple legacy (just her parents). The family knows I post here a lot and they know that the CC community can help them. How many quadruple legacies are accepted to the Ivies each year? Is this gaming the system? They figure since they will have to fill out the Profile and but FOUR IB incomes down, they should get something in return.

Thanks moderators - I am so glad this is back to save me time. I am still trying to get through it from the first time! :)

thumper - quadruple legacies are so last year. The minimum now is multiples of that. Need to have legacy grandparents, divorced and remarried so that you have 20x legacy (if I can still pass math).

Harriet, in light of the new Amethyst Initiative (which is, I believe, similar to a Black Pearl), I think that essay title could actually get him in.

Thanks, garland. You have a point there.

I’ll make sure he keeps working on that one. H and I felt it offered more opportunities for display of his genius than Fifteen Men on a Dead Man’s Chest (too kinky-sounding) or Yo, Ho Ho (too likely to be mistaken for inappropriate language). Ten Fathoms Deep, of course, opens up the possibility of Shakespearean allusions - full fathom five and all - which really shouldn’t be too difficult for S2 to work in, since H and I are writing his essays anyway.

Does anyone see a problem with that?

Also, thumper, I think Singersmom may be right, but it could still be worth a try. At any rate it’s definitely not gaming the system and they certainly deserve some reward for the stress of worrying about all this.

Pshaw, Harriet. Rejected right back at ya. Skidmore?? What’s that 4th tier community college doing listed amongst the sistas? Wellesley if you’ve learned anything while doing your research to write your son’s college essays. Is it true you are writing it on developing a new fat free jelly out of Rum, toenail jam and bellybutton lint?

violadad – if Sarah Palin can write her a rec, she’s in – celebrity trumps all!!

Gosh, jym, I thought Skidmore was a New Sister! Or was it a Public Sister? Or wait, maybe it’s a Sister That Changes Lives.

And no, you’re confusing his essay with his Seaman’s paper. :D

I read somewhere that an acute shortage of belly button lint is in the making. The trend towards naval jewels and piercings has stemmed the supply at the natural source.

While there have been attempts at research to increase production, and also unsuccessful attempts to create artificial substitutes, it seems that large scale lint farming on a commercial basis will never be profitable.

I would urge financial caution if you’re planning investment along those lines.

It might be a great field for masters or PhD pursuit.

Why don’t they just use naval jelly?

omg I had been trying to go on a CC diet. This ruins everything. Thanks mods.

Riverrunner…I had to read through ALL the previous pages to see if my posts were the ones that were deleted!! Now THAT took time.

But it was worth it…great advice for when my unborn grandchildren apply to college in 30 or so years.
