You can’t sightsee, hike or have cocktails, but you can sit outside in the beautiful resort area and have people bring you delicious foods while you laze around and read. Sounds pretty much perfect to me.
It’s sort of like a 19th century sanatorium, but with more modern medical care and more comfortable bathing suits
We’d be very interested in medical tourism. Our “problem?” Haven’t had the major need yet.
There are oodles of countries one can go to and we’re the sort that recovery with a view beats recovery without. Then we’d add on to the trip either before or after to enjoy some sightseeing. Since the expense is often the flight it’d be a nice savings. I’m not so sure one can’t do much after surgery anyway. It depends upon what it is (the type of surgery and what one wants to do). I’ve had no problem hiking after carpal tunnel surgery. I’m also ok on a balcony with a book too.
I definitely don’t agree that the only “safe” medical care is in the US. It’s convenient for those who don’t enjoy or want to travel, but that’s different than safe.
Sure it can be fun if the surgery is a cosmetic procedure above the shoulders. But for orthopedic surgery recovery… that idea sounds terrible to me. It all sounds good to people who have not had any experience with surgeries… DVT is a big issue and so are post-surgical infections. I would much rather be in a place where I am not exposed to other people’s bugs… my home. Just no to a resort or even worse - hospital.
BTW, one can cook and do a lot of stuff while on crutches.
You just have to have the right setup for it.
Of course, YMMV. If you like sitting on a beach chair all day long being served food… I don’t.
@katliamom That’s exactly what I’m talking what I’m talking about. Modern, state of the art, top training and a $250 crown vs $1200 - $1500 here (sure that varies by dentist and market but that’s average in Tampa).
