Lol. It says in the article that he played soccer…No kid that scrawny can be good at soccer.

I notice his SAT scores weren’t mentioned while his GPA was…hmmmmmmm

wow… rick rolled on cc…

how the hell did he get accepted by all of those colleges!!!

Which Ivy didn’t he apply to?

Brown. And he got rejected from MIT, which isn’t an Ivy but (arguably) equally good.

I am going to beat a different drum - his foreign name and background helped him. Look at his extras - good but ordinary model UN and stuffs and played soccer. How extraordinarily ordinary! If his last name was Stewart I am willing to bet he would not have gotten in to all these schools.

Or perhaps it’s his life experience? …

^Probably was… I don’t know why he applied to MIT though, it doesn’t seem like he has any interest in math or science.

The only part I’m impressed with is his family background and upbringings. I am not at all impressed by his acceptances though.
There is no reason why he should apply to 18 schools. Come on, give me a break. It’s people like him that makes it harder for those who really want to be at Columbia, Middlebury, Amherst etc. He just takes away the spots for those people. Yeah, theres the whole wait list process but still I don’t see why you just can’t narrow your choices down to 5-6 colleges. 18 is just stupidly annoying. I’m really not trying to hate on the kid. It’s great that he was able to get into all those schools but you cannot attend all 18 and applying to them just to have the glory of turning 17 down is pretty much a stupid reason if you ask me.

“Rofl!..Cc’ers are so flippin’ funny. I just love the nonstop sarcasm that bounces around this site…”

The person who called him a prestige whore isn’t being sarcastic. I mean, yesyou should shoot for schoosl like that because most likely you can handle their course load but of the 18 colleges most of them are just top ranked colleges. I’m sure he was going for mostly prestige.

I agree, it’s rather disgusting.

But, then again, apparently the deans of admission feel that he deserves a seat at those colleges to which he was admitted: so why not?

Get real, you guys – this kid didn’t speak English when he came to the US. Yet five years later he graduated at the top of his class, earning a more-than-perfect gpa in an American high school. Do you have any idea how much work, grit and determination that takes? These schools clearly did… and rewarded him with admission.

Guys!!! I met the kid at the Mayor’s BBQ held for all NYC valedictorians yesterday. The guy is very nice and we exchange emails and took a picture together. He was very humble, to my surprise and I had a feeling he was overwhelmed by the whole situation himself. Think about it…it was going to happen to someone! It’s a statistical probability! So many people applied to all of the Ivy leagues and beyond them that someone HAD to get in in all of them. It just happened to be him.

Picture or it didn’t happen.

why would anyone in their right mind apply to both columbia and dartmouth? they have nothing in common except for the athletic league. i mean, the other ivies are similar enough to understand, and leaving out brown makes sense for him, but dartmouth? why?

Dartmouth is awesome! I applied to all eight despite their differences. He, like I did, probably figured that it is better to apply to most of them just in case you get rejected from all except some random Ivy. I actually don’t know why he didn’t apply to Brown.

Funny anecdote: one of the former vals at my school got rejected from Brown and got into Harvard. Maybe he was just trying to protect his stats :p

There were a good number of people in my school who were admitted to the big three, HYP.
They applied to other Ivies, like Columbia (NY location) and Brown (Open Curriculum, PLME), and the two best LACs, Williams and Amherst, but they knew full well that they would be admitted to the best schools.

There is just something terribly wrong about applying 18 schools, the best at that, to play the crapshoot and ego game.

Petya555, you were at the Mayors BBQ too? I didn’t see him at all. All I did was eat, take pics with the mayor and listen to him & Joel Klein speak. I didn’t even notice he was there.

BTW, the mayor’s BBQ was held for both Vals and Sals.

um yea, he was being sarcastic…that’s why he said “how uncommon” at the end; while calling the kid a prestige whore.

But anywho…
