"A" student not looking for top schools

U Richmond, Rhodes, Ohio-University, Miami-OH (a bit on the cold side), Tulane, Trinity TX, UVermont (quite cold though), Ithaca (cold), St Olaf (cold), USC (Capstone or Top scholars), Southern Miss, Ole Miss, James Madison, UMW, App State, UNC Asheville, USanDiego, Santa Clara U, UPuget Sound, Whitman?

What are your financial constraints? Some of the above offer merit aid.

Note that “First year” often has nothing to do with “freshmen” having “men” in it, and often with either enrolling lots of students who dual enrolled in HS or because of history with British founders. And Freshers&Sophisters became Freshmen and Sophomores.
(Some state universities use “first time in college” to distinguish from transfers).

“A” tells nothing, A at a rigorous and competitive school with, NMS,NAPS, 16 AP and 1600 SAT is very different level from A at a mediocre school with 4 AP, National commended and 1470 SAT.

We visited a number of private universities in the south and they were all very white and very preppy. Maybe Texas and CA private colleges are less preppy. We didn’t see those. If he wants the South and more diverse and less preppy, he needs to look at public colleges. Perhaps Christopher Newport. I don’t think UMW and UNC Asheville have business schools, but I could be wrong. If he’s open to larger, there are many more public options.

Good Luck!

I realize you may very well be talking about a different school, but there are several schools that use “First Year,” “Second Year” out of tradition (like UVA), not because of a particular concern for gender equality and understanding. Though for the life of me I can’t figure out why the latter reason isn’t equally meritorious.

Agree with Furman recommendation.
