First it is unfair, because this is an anonymous forum. The general assumption is that the OP is truthful and actually had this experience. We have no other basis of evidence that supports their claim.
Second, assuming their claim is true it is unfair to judge an entire university based upon a bad fraternity experience. People choose to go to fraternity parties, the university doesn’t force them to attend them.
Third, as you have seen the university took direct action against the Greek system due to this behavior. So kudos to Lehigh university for taking direct action.
The OP is obviously emotionally fragile based upon their post alone:
An event that has occurred at a minimum of 2 months ago since Lehigh closed on March 21st and is still obviously suffering enough to malign an entire university due to a fraternity experience… one would hope they are getting professional help.
Recommending professional help isn’t an insult, it is hope that they get better.
Lehigh has been trying to get Greek Life under control for YEARS. Multiple chapters have been banned over the last several years, leading up to the suspension of all Greek Life this past winter.
Regarding Lehigh’s internal investigations, they represent initiatives in the right direction, and, though uncomfortable in some of their details, should not be held against the school in my opinion.
You made great points. You cannot judge a University on the experience of one person. Yes, it was a terrible experience for the OP, but I bet every single college can find someone with that same exact experience. And kudos to Lehigh for taking action against Greek life.
It was not insulting to suggest help… The OP herself, said she reached out for help.
I’m asking what she meant by “white conservative” and how this played into her treatment?
Many, many schools have issues similar to this. A woman was attacked outside a frat house at Purdue at the beginning of this school year. Dartmouth has had a host of problems over many, many years. Cornell, as was pointed out, also has had issues, including a shooting on campus last year.
IMO, it’s helpful for students and parents to remember that campuses are not some ideal utopia. They have their host of problems and issues that mirror society as a whole.
OP’s initial post was about their own personal experience. Kudos to them for sharing! While other students have much different experiences and love Lehigh, it’s not helpful to undermine this poster’s experience and question their mental stability.
@Lila_Bear Some think professional mental help is the answer to everything. It isn’t. This OP knows exactly what she thinks and does not need mental help but does need a more healthy environment. I laugh when I see people raising the issue of getting a therapist for their kids for every bump in the road. I remember people raising professional help when my kids were in diapers. LOL. Their kids often didn’t ever build resiliency. But the kids did spend a lot of time talking about their therapy.
I see no issue at all with raising big issues like this on a forum like CC. People who care about this type of behavior can avoid the school. It’s notable that many other schools have problems with Greek Life. Kids and their parents aren’t always wise to fully vetting a school. Another thing people should check is the crime rate at various schools and how it is reported.
Hello, for those curious I am a male. Also, to address this question from earlier.
Taylor gym imo is one of the best places to meet people. It’s a big social circle and everyone knows/ motivates each other. I’ve met some of my best friends through the gym. When I first started I was clearly a beginner and I had no idea what I was doing, yet everyone still approached/ supported me the entire time.
As a freshman, I went to Lehigh After Dark and it was okay. As a sophomore, I normally just go for the free food then leave. I personally find the events kinda boring but some people love them. Its mainly geared towards people who don’t have plans over the weekends. It’s an okay place to meet people but once you’ve found your group of friends imo there’s a lot of more fun things to do on campus. If you take advantage of what Lehigh has to offer you will never be bored on weekends.

According to information shared on another thread started today by @Mwfan1921 “NACAC list of colleges with openings is out” in the College Search & Selection section, Lehigh University has openings for transfer students.
from the Brown & White
with just under 30 percent of Lehigh undergraduates participating in Greek life as of fall 2017, the lowest it has been during 2013 to 2017, the years in which the Office of Student Affairs conducted a study. With a diminishing Greek presence and recent university action, current and prospective students are seeing a different institution when it comes to Greek life.
