HIMom, taking NSAIDs precludes a lot of painkillers and ibuprofen. Surprised your doc didn’t mention it. I have to get my primary’s clearance for corticosteroids before the ortho will give them to me, so if you take any kind of steroids, it would be worth checking on the interactions.
I rarely take NSAIDs–maybe a few times a year or less. I do take a daily 5mg of a beta blocker (zebeta) and wasn’t warned that it would interact with anything.
I have read and heard about dangers of frequent and high doses of nsaids, especially Tylenol. Tylenol is the he least effective nsaid for me anyway–I much prefer ibuprofen for the rare times I need to take snything.
I take daily inhaled steroids but only oral steroids during severe infections maybe a few times a year or less.
HI, when I was on a beta blocker a few months ago, I was told not to take NSAIDs. I get all of my meds at the same pharmacy so I always ask if any new med will interfere with my old meds.
I was switched over to a calcium channel blocker when the beta blocker wasn’t working and don’t remember getting any warnings…
An example when follow-up paid off: my brother had screening blood work as part of a routine physical. The liver enzymes were a little abnormal. They were about the same on repeat testing. Six months later the liver function tests were elevated a little more, so they asked my brother to abstain from alcohol and then be retested. Liver enzymes were still slightly elevated. After a lot of sleuthing, lots of blood work, and a liver biopsy, the diagnosis was autoimmune hepatitis. In my brother’s case, it was caught early, so although it can be a nuisance and a worry to be retested, I appreciate a doctor who takes the time to analyze each test result. I know my brother does also.
Wow, cincy gal – that is a great story – I totally agree. Glad he had a doctor who was attentive to the test results.
Jaylynn — I like that term, safari. Yes I think Wilson’s disease is a reach too. I’ll post here once I get the results. Good to know my results are normally not considered an issue.
Me again. Round 2 results came back low again (15). Next step is seeing an eye doctor to rule out Wilson’s disease. Liver enzymes: normal. Can’t think of anything that could be causing this (other than excessive Cyber Monday shopping…)
