regarding the holocaust its easily the biggest human-made event ever! 11 million were murdered 6 mil Jews, 5 mil non-Jews and the reasons! These ppl were normal, with normal lives, etc. Hitler just picked on them because of their ancestry! To put the numbers in perspective, the Jewish people’s population is still less than it was before the Holocaust.

Regarding the Auschwitz comment way above, the 6 million was for the total number of Jews who died in the Holocaust. The number wasn’t “renovated”! The 1.5 million is the number of ppl who died in Auschwitz, the worst of the work camp and death camps. Do you realize how many 6 million is? And the additional multiple millions of ppl (esp Jews) who suffered in the work camps for up to 8 years, fighting starvation, workinh under the hot sun every day, getting beaten, fearing death, etc? How can anyone say it was exaggerated? In addition, to find out over 3 million names of Jews that were reported since 1953 (these are only the ones who were reporteddd and proved as having died in the Holocaust!) can be found at http://www.yadvashem.org/wps/portal/IY_HON_Entrance how can you still say that only 1.5 million perished in that travesty?

Seriously, you think the Chinese are modest about their achievements? C’mon. I’ve read enough Chinese literature to know that the Chinese believe their cultural achievements to be very important. It just happens that they’re just getting out of an insular period in their history.

You really ought to read Coulter’s books, read her blog, and listen to what she says on FOX. She’s ATROCIOUS. She called for the forced conversion of Muslims, attacking Canada (once on FOX), and has basically labeled a group (liberals) as “queers.”

And her books sell like hotcakes. Then again, so does Birch literature.

funny, I’ve read Ann Coulter. She is indeed a raging, neocon, ■■■■■■. Not that Michelle Malkin is any better.

Problem with Japan isnt that she hasnt appologized enough…it is a matter of the sincerity of the apology. I dont think any reasonable person can think that a country isnt still trying to justify its past when the PM goes to Yasukuni to honor Class A war criminals. There are alot of ppl against it, but then there are alot of ppl for it. Imagine the German pm go pay homage to Hitler, Goering etc. Many Japanese textbooks refer to the Nanjing massacre as an “incident”. The government only recently set up a petty fund to compensate those victims of the brothels set up by the Japanese Imperial Army.

Now Japan can shut alot of critics up by just not visiting Yasukuni. Take the example of Shinzo Abe, the pm to be. Now he is as revisionist as you can get. Anyway frankly I think this doesnt matter to China despite all the recent harping on the issue. Japan’s loss in China’s gain. Ever wonder why Japan is a political midget despite having the second largest economy? Because all her neighbors can pull the moral card. Which countries in the region is really friendly with Japan besides U.S.? Not many.

Anyway I am not against Japanese ppl. I have a ton of friends who are japanese americans or japanese born and i can speak a decent amount of Japanese. Im a fan of Japanese culture andy some of my favorite music artists are Japanese. Yui, Rie Fu, TM Revolution, Asian Kungfu Generation, Dream, High and Migty Color and lots more. However the government is something that I cant seem to figure out.

Japan is a security midget not because of the regional powers but because they haven’t placed a high priority on being part of the security community until recently. It was too nice only spending 1% of the GDP and not worrying about the rest of the world. The moral card doesn’t matter much, anyway, when you’ve got bigger guns. Look at the USSR and China today. I mean, c’mon, the US pulls the moral card on the PRC all the time. It ain’t doin’ much.

Oh, and Taiwan and Japan have good relations generally.

I agree on Yasukuni, however.

I wouldn’t count on Shizo Abe as the next PM, however.
