Hmmm… what’s worse, never hearing of Avagadro’s number or being given the wrong value for it? Whadya think, TrinSF?

lol a math teacher who said to a kid, “you’re too stupid to take the AMC10s”
and then the kid took it anyways, cuz he wanted to, and made the AIME, and got yelled at for not following teacher’s directions

“in 6th grade, my class read a book called The Cay. we had to borrow it from the teacher and if we destroyed it, then we had to pay for it.”

The policy at our school was, if the book was returned in any condition LESS than the condition it was issued in, a fine was paid. Something like $25 for dropping one level (from “New” to “Excellent”), $50 for two levels, and so on. What a scam. Of COURSE the books are inevitably going to drop from one level to the next over time. One of my son’s books dropped from pretty bad to begin with, to “unuseable”, so we were charged. I went up to the school and asked for the book, since it was “unuseable”. They gave it to me! (But I believe it would have been used the next year.)

Our school district has the following science requirements: geophysical science (little bits & pieces of things that higher level science courses cover more in depth) and biology (this year’s 9th graders have to add chem or physics, but that was not required before). No honors is offered in any of the sciences (AP, but no honors for any science classes). I have run into quite a few kids who transfer into the district as juniors & seniors who were in districts that did not require geophysical science. These kids have taken chem, physics, AP level sciences … yet, they are required to take geophysical science with the 9th graders in order to graduate. The only way out of this requirement is to take a test the previous May & pass. Unfortunately, most who are transferring in do not know about this, and they get stuck in the 9th grade class. It’s pretty much a waste of time, and with only 6 hours offered to high schoolers, it takes up time that could be used for something more beneficial. Kids who want to try to test out when they find out that they must take the class are not allowed to do so … May only! Sheesh.
