Academics?

Hi, I’m a first time poster so we’ll see how this goes! I’ve been obssessed with these boards for a few weeks now, reading everyone’s experiences and such, and I wanted to know how strenuous the academics were at Webster for the conservatory students? How big of a role does it play in admissions?

Welcome to College Confidential. It was an enormous help to us when our D was looking for schools.

I am sure the Webster Rep will answer your question about academics and admission to Webster University.

Hopefully a student will also answer your questions about the academics that you take once you are there.

Sorry I don’t have more info for you but I know my D thinks the conservatory classes are wonderful and challenging. She took several college classes in high school and between those and the AP tests she really hasn’t had to take too many “academic” type classes at Webster.

All Conservatory students must take some non-Conservatory classes. The amount varies depending on the major. The general education and elective requirements at Webster are very flexible - students have a lot of control over what classes they can take in order to satisfy degree requirements. Here is a link to the catalog which details the requirements for each program [Webster University–2007-2008 Undergraduate Catalog](http://www.webster.edu/ugcatalog/index.html)

Regarding application, academic admission is separate from Conservatory admission. A student needs to apply for academic acceptance and if accepted, proceed to audition for specific admission to the Conservatory.

Webster is generally considered a “moderately selective” school. Students most likely to be accepted will usually have a GPA of 3.0/4.0 scale, and a composite ACT of 21 or combined SAT of 1600.
