Well I don’t think advertising indicates whether one school is stronger or weaker than any other. In fact, I know for a fact that University of Chicago, most of the UC’s, and Columbia advertises through email and the mail. These are just a few that I have received countless advertisements from and I’m sure other top tier schools do it too. It might also depend on where you live and the targeted audience maybe?

Furthermore, Pomona does not receive a significantly larger amount of applicants in comparison to CMC. I was just thinking that it might not be entirely accurate to compare CMC, Pomona, or any other small yet strong LAC, to a school like Dartmouth or Cornell. While these ivy league schools have higher acceptance rates, their applicant pool is several times larger and the 25/50/75 SAT and GPA range of their class is usually higher than that of the initially mentioned small LAC’s.
