Acceptance Thread Undergrad Class of 2024 Graduate Class of 2022

@angelcatcher nvm, I found it. No award notice yet for us.

If anyone else needs it, you click on the “students” tab at the top, then “new and prospective student business.” Then I had to verify using my daughter’s UM ID# and birth date, then I was able to see it.

Thanks, @angelcatcher!! So excited to hear you had an money update from SMTD! Woohoo!!! Are you happy? Are you out of state? (We are–have heard such a crazy range on what SMTD gives out-of-staters.) I just logged on to Wolverine and we’re still at zero. Fingers crossed that we will rise above the zero financial award soon!!! (Wait… do you think it’s possible we may not get anything? Talking out loud here. Fear is creeping in. Sigh. I have a kid who is bugging me to make lunch for him so I suppose I need to step away from the screen.) Congrats!!! SMTD is such a great school!

Everyone, we got our SMTD financials. It was good, but not as good as Eastman, Oberlin or Lawrence. SMTD is my kid’s top school, so we’ll need to do some thinking here! Curious to hear if others bump up against this (fave school is more money than non-fave schools) and how your family is handling it. Thanks, everyone!!!

@MomOfSingers 4 years ago D initially had zero from SMTD. She had not gone to on campus auditions but had sent in a video as the travel costs were getting too too high for us. After acceptance, we went to accepted students day and she did sample lessons in person. About two weeks later, the Dean wrote us a letter saying they were able to give her a merit award. So yes, zero is possible but it doesn’t have to end there. Good luck!

@MomOfSingers same here, hoping against hope for that elusive out-of-state $$ from Michigan! My D could really use some good news today after getting a rejection from Eastman yesterday

@songbirdmama That’s good to hear! Although there will be no accepted students days this year

@essbeeny – we just got our SMTD offer. Not as big as the other schools’ offers, but I spoke to someone and said that SMTD gives very little Out of State aid and that I should be thrilled with the amount (it was all merit, no financial aid). We are actually going to talk to one of his teachers to lay everything out. All his other offers are similar, so we’re trying to find which of them are the plan B.

@MomOfSingers I know, that’s what I’ve heard, too. It’s probably not going to be enough for us. But my D’s tuba teacher told us one of his previous students got a great package from them, so we’ve been hoping! So far her best offer is from SUNY Fredonia (we are in-state, plus they added on merit) and St. Olaf.

@essbeeny showing sincere interest can be accomplished electronically, in absence of accepted student days. Ask for a Skype lesson, names of current students to email…if they see you are serious about the offer, it can only help!

Were you all emailed about an update to the WolverineAccess page, or did you just check and find it under award summary? Also, any MM Voice applicants got theirs yet?

I just checked because other people had mentioned it. We hadn’t yet received an email.

Good to know! Thanks - looks like graduate decisions are still trickling out.

@MomOfSingers we had this situation. Basically we had enough money saved for our instate flagship, so as long as the cost of attendance for S’s school of choice was within that range, it didn’t have to be the largest offer. (Although it was hard giving up the full tuition ride from one competitor!) Eastman was a bit more even after merit aid, but close enough that we decided it was worth it for S to attend his dream school. He also lived on a triple this year, which brought costs down, and will do work/study. No regrets!

NEC just sent an email with financial aid and scholarship info.
Let’s just say I did not fall of the chair because of their offer… Not sure my daughter can attend the school after all
Also.anyone has any idea what is their basic scholarship?

@songbirdmama A Skype lesson is a great idea, thanks! And my D actually has a great reason to do that even though she already had an in-person lesson–the tuba professor told her a while ago that he’s retiring and at that point they hadn’t selected his replacement yet. Maybe she could have an opportunity to meet the new professor (there’s only one for tuba at SMTD).

@shulad , my son came running upstairs today to tell me that NEC offered him $41,000 a year. He was so excited. Until I asked to take a look and saw that it included 2 loans. The scholarship portion was for $16,000 a year. He was so disappointed.

Hi, all! Has anyone heard from Blair? My daughter has a friend that also auditioned VP at Vanderbilt and that friend received an email last Thursday that she was accepted to Blair for VP. However, my D did not get anything, “accepted” or “rejection” email. Any insights here?

same here 8150 per semester … SO basically they cover room and board… Right?

@SongStress2024 My D auditioned for Blair Feb 7-8 for VP and she hasn’t heard anything either. Some of the board veterans think there may be news tomorrow. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck!

@MomOfSingers He is incredibly happy with his package and so are we! He is in- state and he has been very active with the faculty in the jazz department. They are a fantastic group of supportive, talented professors. The difficult decision to make will be after we receives his package from Northwestern. He just found out he got accepted to Bienen and Weinberg. But, we won’t be able to send him unless he receives a very generous package.
