IU/Jacobs did extend their acceptance date to June, but the other schools are all still May 1. So today is a very big day 
for my S.
Well, after many tears and much vacillation, my D committed to St. Olaf this morning. In the end, it ended up not coming down to aid, it came down to which school was a better fit. Saying no to Eastman was hard though because she was SO excited to get accepted and it’s such a great school. I think she might be the only St. Olaf kid on this thread.
@arehorst congratulations.??? We had the same issue. I am sure they all be happy.
Having to decide on a college is almost as hard as going through all the auditions and post-audition anticipation. You have all these shiny objects you’ve collected and you have to give up every single one except one !

Jumping on to express my sincere gratitude to all who have been on this journey with us! I remember feeling a mix of fear and excitement this time last year when it was finally our turn. Everyone who had gone before promised that things would work out, and that our kids would each find their place. For the life of me, I couldn’t imagine that would be true. And yet, here we are! In one piece, on the other side. There have been bumps, joys, and surprises along the way. Through it all, this group has been a source of encouragement and support.

To those of you who are reading this and thinking of your child’s audition journey next year: YOU CAN DO IT! We have come so far and learned so much from where we were at the end of last school year. All of the nerves and worrying and planning does pay off in the end.

For those of you in future years reading this, AND for those who have already accepted but could use a little bit extra in the financial arena, I come bearing good news and a couple of tips. “It 'aint over til the fat lady sings !” Communication is key. Timing is everything.
So, what happens to those scholarships and merit awards that were offered to students who decide to go elsewhere? Well, they are "repurposed" as I figured they would be and sent a letter to that effect, right after decision day. (though that's now been extended... so not sure my timing theory here works. Still claiming it... ) If you stay in constant communications and "stay on the radar" so to speak, some of those funds get repurposed to your kid !! And you get nice emails like this...

I still have you on my scholarship radar, yes! The repurposing of funds is not the easiest thing in the world, but I am confident that we’ll be able to improve XXXX’s offer. I already have at least $1,000 set aside for him! I’m waiting to see what happens this week; I’d rather come back to you with a few thousand.

A few thousand !!! ?And just like that, the loan amount I’ll have to take out has decreased, though not official yet. Every little bit helps, right? By the way I was just looking at the email thread from when I started the financial appealing (Let’s call it begging for more! ) and there are 26 messages between 3 people (did I mention constant communication is key?) since March 27 (I think my kid got accepted on March 26th) and he’s gotten two additions to the initial package since then. This will be the third!! I’m glad it’s almost over now cause I was running out of creative ways to ask.! . ?.. without sounding pushy. My latest asking/Keep my kid on your radar email included pictures of College Decision Day where he officially said yes. I did a BIG crafting front yard creative thingy . I was on the parent planning committee for his school’s celebration ( A pretty big deal around here) so I already had all these ideas in my head and just did them in my front yard since my kid had been look forward to HIS turn at decision day for three years. After 26 emails, we’re “friends” so you know… friends get pictures? Whatever works, right? !! Now excuse me while I go craft a hand made personalized thank you card to send to this person. My Cricut thank you cards have showed up all along the way… my biggest tip, by the way. Thank you cards. Almost everywhere my kid went for an audition, where he had had a previous lesson with the instructor or just visited a college, he spotted his thank you card on the walls, in music offices… When we stopped by the AdCom’s office, the Christmas card he had sent was on the wall… In March !! I told him I’m confident that his Thank you cards had something to do with his 100% Music Schools acceptance rate. And even if it didn’t … Say THANKS !!!
