My understanding, at least from the 7 schools the kid has on his list, is that the refunds are in the form of CREDITS towards the next semester, and not actual dollars. ( I imagine for graduating seniors it would be ) So that shouldn’t affect this years financial awards any. At least I hope not. They already HAVE the $$$ and for most schools, it’s a snooze you lose kinda deal. At least that’s what I heard in my FA discussions. If they don’t use it this year, it doesn’t roll over to next year. That also means that if they offer a student a particular grant/scholarship from a department (not the academic merit etc) … like the music talent awards, and that student decides to go elsewhere, on April 30th, those funds are no longer available to give to someone else. At least that’s how it was explained to me at several schools. Which is why the instructors going to bat for a student want to make sure that student will in fact attend, or else they lose money… and face. If that student makes a decision before the deadline and lets the school know, then those funds can be allocated to another student. After May 1st, it’s a goner.

@shulad, at the info session on my D’s audition day (3/4), MSM said that all admission decisions would be communicated on March 31. (No earlier, no later.)

@Shulad : From 2018 (Violin Perf), NEC sent us the notification on 3/23 and Peabody was on 3/30.

@rubypiano Congrats to your son! Such a great program in a great city for jazz! I’m curious, did you also receive financials at the same time, or do you have to wait on that info?

Thank you! Yes, they did give a 6K merit scholarship per year. The information was in the offer letter.

Got an update at UC Santa Barbara Portal. This completes my daughter’s acceptance to UCSB (she was accepted into school of music and we were just waiting for the decision from the university).

I am sure if your son or daughter applied to Oberlin then they probably received this message:

The Oberlin College of Arts and Sciences and Conservatory of Music admissions offices will both be releasing online decision letters for first-year applicants on Saturday, March 21 at 1:00 PM EDT. SB portal message stated that financial merit letter will be posted by March 23rd. I already know how much Pell Grant/Financial Aid she may get (from Chapman financial package).
