Hi-I just wanted to address some of the comments in this thread. We are from southeast PA, my daughter is finishing up her freshman year at CofC and absolutely LOVES it! She says the girls wear dresses more there than up north, we also noted that the southern kids were dressed better when we did the college tour thing a while back. As for laid back, yes, it seems laid back, but I am comparing that with my son who is a senior at the US Merchant Marine Academy–not your normal college environment.

We were in Charleston last week, it was absolutely beautiful, and we didn’t want to come home. Over Parents Weekend in the fall, we rented a cottage on Folly Beach and it was only 10 min into town (also off-season rates).

USAir is the only carrier that flies non-stop from Philadelphia, we have paid 300-400 round trip the 3 times she came home. However, they do run e-saver fares for about $158 usually once a month, but it’s never worked out for her breaks. When she decided to go there we told her we would only pay for 1 trip home per semester and then Christmas, anymore and she would have to pay herself. We did drive her down in August and will go down to pick her up in May.

The dorms are about as nice as any I’ve seen at a college–mostly suites, with 2 bedrooms sharing a bath and living room a basic configuration depending on the particular dorm. However, she’ll be in an apartment next year, most kids do tend to move off campus.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
