Accepted into Exeter, but not enough Financial Aid

No harm in asking.

No, you don’t. Private school tuition is not tax deductible. I’ve been paying for private school as many years as you are old… no tax breaks.

Ahh, sorry guys, as I mentioned, I’m only 14. I know that my old school offered tax detectable donations, so I figured maybe it was the same for the tuition. My bad!

In any case, a school like Exeter is pretty good with financial aid… so to address the OP, I see no harm in calling. At least you got in… I was not so lucky :frowning:

@coppii most (but not all) private schools are non profits and non profits can take tax deductable “charitable” gifts or donations. That is very different than paying tuition. A tax deductable donation is not something a school offers it is part of the tax code for charitable organizations. If a parent paid their tuition under the guise of a charitable donation there would be potential legal ramifications of fraud and tax evasion.

And here I was thinking that I had to get hold of @copii’s accountant…

Oooh, @coppii I understand your frustrations and your love for Exeter. Love that you want to be more than just a money kid. Don’t let this crash you. You will surely do the great things you would have done at Exeter, only elsewhere. All the best!

No school defines someone/anyone and no school is perfect. Remember many of these schools are living on 300 years of institutional goodwill. My father grew up a refugee-went to public schools and a public college and graduate school and is a successfull scientist with patents etc who has contributed to the advancement of science; my husband went to all public schools-grade through law–and is a highly successful investor. No we arent Mark Zuckerberg but many in my family did more than okay and every last one of us went to public schools.

Thank you @TATS1234 … my reasons for wanting to attend Exeter more than anything was to just surround myself with people that had a similar initiative to myself, in a stable environment. These two factors, (Initiative and stability) are things that I have trouble surrounding myself with at home… but, I am a person with much pride and I am sure that I will figure it out – but that doesn’t mean I won’t allow myself a day or two of sadness.

Wait can someone explain me the 529 plan?

@snapchat, a 529 is a savings plan parents can set up to pay for college. If you do a Google search for “529 savings plan” you’ll find the sec.gov website that explains them.

It means you can’t afford it. You’ll need to go with plan B.

I hope there is a Swiss bank account under my name for college lol
