<p>NYU does give out some merit aid to those who do not have need. But it is mainly talent based (art, music, theatre), to those who have won Sieman’s or such, or to the very tippy top of their accepted students.</p>
<p>They will also give a lot of scholarships and grants with different names in differing amounts which are all need based. The amount you get will be higher if they really want you a lot, but without need they are not availble to students.</p>
<p>Most of the talent merit awards (no need) were only given out during RD rounds as a way of luring the most talented students to come. ED candidates in general are not offered these talent awards without need.</p>
