Accepted University of Michigan Class of 2024

yes, the calendar is odd this year resulting in a late labor day. If they put it start off until after labor day they would end up with finals right up into Christmas.
I am surprised there is not earlier move in though.

This thread may not be the place to say it but idk where else to ask:
So there’s the 4 Ross waves: 1/31, 2/28, 3/27, 4/17.
Is it completely random when you hear back? Are the first 2 waves for EA accepted students and the last 2 waves for RD?

Sorry, that’s my fault. I should have checked the actual Fall 2020 calendar. At any rate, so you’ll lose that extra day, Labor Day, but seriously you won’t need it anyway. You will have at least 3-4 days to move in and get setup.

@KenJennings re: the high % of acceptances that do not end up matriculating - i think a good chunk of those can be blamed on CA. We do not have any EA for UCs and several campuses are so competitive that UMich ends up being a popular EA school in case the UCs don’t work out. High stat kids from our HS apply every year. But then, if students are lucky enough to get accepted to a UC, the cost differential keeps them in state. Or they get into a needs-met private school that can offer more aid. The yield is still higher than UCLA, Cal, etc., who also have a low yield b/c their RD deadline is so early, before EDs/EAs come out. Also, ya never quite know what you might get/not get in aid at UM so it’s worth a shot for OOS even if the chances for enough $ are slim.

It is my understanding that the structure of some of the private schools also impacts this. Some of them have “single choice” or “restrictive” early action. In many cases, such as Princeton or Yale, you can only apply EA to one private school, but unlimited (or in some cases one) public schools. So U of M ends up with a ton of applications from kids who do a private EA and then U of M. Many of those kids also do RA at other private schools.

For a private school who has done this, they effectively make kids sort on preferences early. They don’t get all of their early action kids, but they have sorted into the groups that are very serious about the school, whereas U of M gets a broader set - many who could end up with more financial aid or just have a preference for the broader set.

Add in that the UC system, UT-Austin and Washington don’t have EA, so for high state kids doing a private and some public EA Michigan is probably the major public EA. Makes it even lower of a yield for them.
They could probably manage it more if they wanted to, but that might result in missing good students you could have gotten.

@Nonamefits Exactly. Pretty common in my school for students doing HYPSM to also do Michigan and Georgia Tech in early, and apply priority to Austin

Is anyone’s Ross portal showing an action item of resolve now saying “verify continued interest” ?
Seems to have changed today

mine still says the following as it always has:

We have received your preferred admission application to the Stephen M. Ross School of Business. Preferred admission applications are considered only after an applicant has received an admit decision from their primary University of Michigan school. Once a preferred admission decision has been reached, that information will be displayed for you here.

What does yours fully say?

@saltypretzel - It may be a good sign that you don’t have an LOCI form.
I don’t know anything, I’m just thinking through scenarios.

@saltypretzel Are you on your Ross portal? That’s what my LSA portal says, and I have the verify interest portion.

im just looking on enrollment connect. whats the website for ross portal? @caffeinenarwhal

do u mean yours says what mine says + verify interest, or there is a completely separate portal from enrollment connect. bc if there is i havent logged into it lol.

@saltypretzel Your Enrollment Connect has two applications: your home school one and your Ross one. Go to the app details tab at the upper left corner, and hit switch applications.

@caffeinenarwhal oh shoot. mine says verify interest. thank u for letting me know lol false hope

@saltypretzel @caffeinenarwhal Did you guys get admitted to LSA? I got admitted into CoE, so I can not access my Ross portal. When I switch applications, it tells me to go to my CoE portal in the messages section…

Yes accepted to lsa

@cak212 yes

The LOCI went away for me, anyone else?

It went away for my son as well. Think it was a system glitch. Phew!

FYI again. If any question call michigan admissions. They are nice people. What lots of you will see is the software going though updates. Why? Well decisions are coming out soon. These things happen when they are uploading and doing maintenance of the system.

I am out of state as well, and only got 3,000. I am so disappointed, this is my dream school There is no way I can afford the out of state tuition.
