ACT April 10, 2010 Official Math Thread

that’s exactly what I did bigbuddy but the thing against that is we don’t know if the transversals were for sure parallel.

pretty sure they had to be parallel. otherwise we wouldn’t have a clue as to what the answer was.

correct me if i’m wrong: the given angle was 55 degrees, so the answer was 55 degrees

nope awnser to that question I’m almost 100% sure was 35

@UVA

How is it 35?

yeah if the given angle was 55 then how do you get 35?

90 - 55 = 35.

it was a parallela gram it was asking for the angle opposite the 55 on the outside which means it would have to add up to 90. 90-55=35

Does anyone remember if 7 was an answer to the question where the answer was 5? (about the teachers)

yeah i got 35 for the parallelogram one too.

in the picture

Does that symbol represent the angle given or the angle we’re solving for?

i still don’t understand the 35 vs. 55 problem; if the given angle was 55 degrees and if it was outside the parallelogram, then the angle adjacent to it inside the parallelogram must be 125. opposite angles in parallelograms are equal, so the one opposite it would be 125, and the angle in question (adjacent to the newly found 125 degree angle) becomes 55 degrees.

that’s my diagram…

Whatever the given angle was, that’s what I got as my answer. I don’t know if it was 35 or 55.

there was a question with the area of a trapezoid i think. the answer was 42?
and another question in which the answer was a point (7,1)…i dont remember the question though

i think there were two questions. one answer was 55 and another was 35 no?

I still think the answer is 55…

the (7,1) one was that there were two points, one being the midpoint and the other being the endpoint.

the answer to the first one is definitely 55 guys… and the other one with the isoceles triangle with a 114 degree angle was 33 (i assume that’s what you’re thinking of zlz5150?)

Does anyone remember the one with the flags and 1 square foot pieces of cloth or whatever? I looked at it for a little then decided to come back to it. I didn’t have time though.
