ACT Testing- Wrongfully Accused of Cheating

I wonder how long it takes to get the results back from the private retake test.

I would imagine it would be the same as regular testing
maybe a couple of weeks. When my child did the test last December (over 3 separate weekends) we got the results about 10 days after the last day she took a test. In general December testing is fine for regular decision applications. Best wishes to you and your child.

What a nightmare. I am so sorry you and your child are going through this.

Such a nightmare, especially at a time when our senior already feels the stress of applications etc. The fact that they waited 4 months to send this is just awful. We need all the positive vibes we can get right now.

I would assume they flagged both kids It’s probably hard to confirm as the other kid is quite possibly a stranger to OP

I am so sorry
that just sucks. I don’t know anything about appeals, I am afraid, but just awful to experience. :frowning: hugs.

I tagged her - so if she is still active and if I am remembering correctly that she has assisted in these areas, she will reply - fingers crossed she sees the message

Thank you !

It turns out that appealing can be a very long, dragged out process, and most, if not all, end in denials. Time is not on our side right now as applications have gone in and more are to go out in the next month. She will have to sit for a private retest. She is so stressed now, moreso than ever and it breaks my heart that this is happening to a kid who has worked so hard.

I’m sorry this is happening, but I do think the correct decision is to retake the test. May I ask what the difference in her score was from 2nd to 3rd test? Just asking for knowledge as to what difference might lead to these cheating accusations.

You might also contact the ACT CEO Janet Godwin (her email is at the link below, and she has a history of responding to emails), because the delay in bringing these charges to students is unacceptable. To make these students retake the test in the middle of everyone thing else they have going on is just wrong and not student centered AT ALL.

Good luck to your D (and you.)

This is great information. I guess I have nothing to lose by emailing her.

Or would this just be viewed in a negative way by ACT and they will make it even harder :frowning:

I don’t know, but IMO people have to pushback because this is not good behavior. Maybe wait until your D has her new results if you are at all concerned about reaching out to ACT now. You could also go to the press, maybe Jeff Selingo?

Edit: if your state is an ACT testing state, you could also reach out to your state ED board.

My experience in general is that people at the top often have no idea how customer service contacts are interacting with customers, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the case here too. I have gotten some good results going right to the top before - honestly, at this point I don’t think you have much to lose. It’s shocking that they are doing this, especially now, and if I were you I would definitely be trying to get someone “in charge” to actually listen to the facts of the case. Good luck.

Personally, my gut is this could help or just be neutral as long as your email is not rude (even if tempting:)
