Gotta love the catchy titles “natural cures” for ADHD…makes one think that if you need to take “medication” there’s got to be something wrong with you because there are other more “natural” ways you can cure yourself. Why not add in some shame to those who have already:
Used just about every “natural” cure from fish oils to herbs to vitamins to supplements, changed their diet, did yoga, meditation, exercised more, swam, ran, stood on their head, cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback and more, all to no avail? Must be something really wrong with me because all these other folks did some of those things and miraculously their ADHD symptoms disappeared!
How about we start getting real here for a moment, shall we? Besides the “sexy” headlines of certain drum beat reporters and other “just want to spread the real truth about over diagnosing and over prescribing of ADHD and medications”, the fact remains that ADHD is very real and here to stay. While some folks may find alternative ways to treat their ADHD, for the overwhelming majority of us, medication is the best course of action. We resent the do-gooders that tell us to just do this, or just try that “because it really works” because we’ve in many cases already done that and it didn’t work. Besides that we’ve spent hundreds of dollars and countless hours/days/weeks of frustration to further add one more failure to the list we’ve had since childhood.
So…the next time you want to “spread the good word” about just use this or do that, remember that there are millions of us who’ve done that and it didn’t work and allow us to have the dignity of using what does work for us, without having to hear from some well intentioned folk and some not so well intentioned others about what we should or shouldn’t be doing with our bodies.
