Admission Decisions Class of 2024

I received an email regarding the scholarship, and then I had to go to the applicant portal and accept the scholarship. There’s a form.

Congratulations to all our future Bearcats!

If you are on FB there is a parents group there (I am the admin). I don’t want to get into trouble here, so please PM if you are having difficulties finding us. It is for parents only (sorry students).

The sooner you accept your admission, the sooner you can get set up for the housing application when it opens. The earlier you do that, the better your housing pick.

My daughter is a sophomore nursing student. Please feel free to PM me with any questions.

@bearcatfan my DD was accepted into the Medical Science program. How many students will be accepted into this program this year? A rough number close to dozens or or about hundred(s)?

@onelittleredfrog Gosh, I really don’t know. I’m sorry.

There are about 190 nursing students in each class, so I"m not sure if that’s helpful.

@onelittleredfrog When we attended the medical science presentation last fall, I think they said they were shooting for an incoming class size of about 100-125 for medical science major (they would admit more of course due to yield). Our out-of-state son also just accepted into Medical Science.

My D got accepted into Med Sci (In-state)

@samTri and @onelittleredfrog. If you are in state (we are not), curious about the local reputation of the medical science program, how it compares to more tradional pre- med type majors like Biology at UC or elsewhere that your kids might be (or were) considering. Appreciate any info you can share!

Anyone receive nursing acceptance?

Yes. Accepted
Nursing.
OOS
Female
3.76 GPA unweighted
ACT 29

I’m not personally going into nursing, but I’ve heard good things about the program. Congratulation to everyone who got in!

@user_8258975 what college is your major in–because what if they send out acceptances by college

Engineering. But I’ve grown up pretty near to UC, so I’ve gotten to know several of the other programs as well.

@bearcatfan Apparently I don’t have enough posts to PM. I assume the FB page is for accepted students parents only? We are still trying to decide and could use more input.

@PurpleArmyDad I let in parents who are considering the university - I am a member of some pages for my high school junior and I appreciate the information.

Come join us! You can always leave if your future lies elsewhere.

@2020hsgraduate @SamTri We are OOS and do not know much about this program.

We understand this is a fairly new program/major and want to know how many of the graduates actually got into Medical/Dental/professional schools in 2018 and 2019. Can someone shed some light on it?

I believe the first batch of Medical Science came out in 2019, but don’t know much details about it. Also, I think this year they accepted about 100 to 130 students in Medical Science.

Does anyone know when regular decision acceptances come out?

@sekbote: If no one else replied, I do not have personal experience but per UC admissions website regular admission decisions are rolling, saying: “The Rolling Deadline means that we accept applications on a space-available basis.” … “For students who complete an application after December 1, admission decisions will be released on a weekly basis starting in early February.” Others may have actual experience on how long that can take after app is submitted, but it may be major & space specific. I did read somewhere a person post that their son applied last year right at the deadline of March 1 in 2018 or 2019 and heard back in 3-4 weeks (did not say what major).

My daughter was accepted in Medical Sciences and we attended a brunch last weekend where I asked one of the presenters at the Med Sciences session about applicants. I was told around 1,100 applicants typically (fewer this year), sent out about 500 acceptances, with the expectation of 25% yield (which would be ~125, although in the presentation they said about 100 students)

Current students in the program answered questions as part of the session, and one of the students said out of 34 graduates in the 2019 class, 17 went into medical school, and the other 17 were expected to be taking a gap year or not going into medical school. (you can choose to go into a research branch of medical sciences to get a master’s or PhD)

The student seemed confident that every one of the graduates who wanted to go to medical school would be in medical school within two years. Whether this was an accurate assessment, I have no idea. He did seem confident, and everyone in the presentation seemed genuine and knowledgeable.
