Admissions Notification Dates 2015

@2019Papa - Stanford, as in most colleges in the United States of America, is predominantly white. When you get through talking, most white students are competing against other white students. Any other discussion is utter nonsense. The numbers of minorities in most colleges is negligible. Which is why they are called predominantly white schools.

There is a reason why most schools maintain the same percentage of all minorities from year to year. It is not because that is all the minorities they could have accepted, it because there is a minimum they must admit to receive the federal funding. If colleges actually accepted only the top students across the board, you would find far more other communities in those seats than those who currently occupy the majority of them…and that is partly why Asian students are suing Harvard. But that’s another thread. I suspect that should schools actually start doing that, we would hear a whole different set of whining and rationalizing about how “unfair” that is…

And interestingly enough, none of that federal funding is tied to retention rates.

Is Stanford tomorrow or April 1st? I’ve seen both…

Stanford is tomorrow

@LastHurrahrah‌

Utter nonsense. Do a little research and look at their Common Data Set for 2014-2015.

Total first year undergrads: 1,677
Total that are White: 620
Percentage: 37%
Hispanic: 15.9%
Black: 6%
Asian: 20.8%
Mixed Race: 11.2%

Total undergrads (degree-seeking): 7,018
Total that are White: 2,633
Percentage: 37.5%
Hispanic: 16.1%
Black: 5.9%
Asian: 19.8%
Mixed Race: 10.7%

Obviously I am not listing the much smaller percentages. Whites may be a plurality, but they are far from a majority at Stanford.

I would like to see an authoritative, Federal citation for that.

@Gummybearz Stanford is tomorrow at 3 pm PDT (6 EST). http://engage.stanford.edu/stanford-rd-decisions-to-be-released-march-27/

@fallenchemist Thanks. Someone is just trying to play a race card again here.

@fallenchemist‌ - Again, your data shows–as it would at the majority of colleges all across the nation–that whites are the majority of students. When you get through talking, whites are competing mostly with other whites. However, let colleges begin actually admitting only the top students, and you will be complaining about another community taking up that majority spot. Then what would be your rationale for why that’s not acceptable?

And you are aware of Title IX and Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act? If so, then you should be perfectly capable of researching just how federal funding impacts minority admissions at colleges.

@LastHurrahrah his data did not show that. There were more whites than any other group but they weren’t close to a majority. The US is over 70% white so compared to the US population most top schools are very diverse.

@lasthurrahrah - I think you need to look up the meaning of “majority”.

ALso, this thread is for admissions notifications. There is a race and admissions thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1544837-race-in-college-admission-faq-discussion-11.html#latest

New SAT word for lasthurrahrah: plurality.

@LastHurrahrah‌

I am sorry, but that is embarrassing that you don’t now the difference between the words majority and plurality. Did it not even occur to you to look up plurality when you saw it in my post, which would have saved you this horrific display of your vocabulary?

Also, your statement was that there is a minimum that schools must have of minorities (a different minimum for each minority? A minimum for the sum of minorities? I don’t know, you don’t say). What I am asking you to produce, very specifically, is a Federal statute or regulation that says specifically what those numbers are so that they can keep receiving funding. That is what you are saying exists. If it is in Title IX or Title VI, by all means please find it and give us the link so that we all know what those numbers are that these schools have to hit or be cut off.

Pepperdine has already started to post decisions and send out email acceptances

The latest list exceeded the maximum character count. It was threatening to grow limbs and walk off, so I performed a bisection and that was the end of that. The 2014 dates can probably be deleted for 2016.

So what is the protocol - my son is still waiting on 2 schools and per the list they emailed last Friday and yesterday but he swears he did not get anything. He can just wait for the snail mail but one of them is part of a spring break decision trip next week and I have to rearrange things if he did not get in. Can he email them an ask? Or if he was not accepted then maybe it come later? Thanks
