@brooklynilene - The “new” SAT word for you is “disingenious” and your essay topic, “dog whistles,” as in the OP writing a dissertation on a thread obstensibly about admissions notifications, but instead, whining about how Stanford U must be on “another mission” since all those big, bad minorities are being accepted–as if, the same white people who are always accepted into Stanford aren’t there, as they are in most of the colleges in the nation. Discussing Stanford as if it has suddenly become an HBCU is absolutely ridiculous. Let me know when Stanford actually becomes an HBCU, and also when they start, you know, handing out degrees just because you were admitted. Yeah, it is utter nonsense, but you are probably the kind of person who gets nervous when more than one person of color is in an elevator, more than one in the room. Suddenly two means there is some kind of slave revolt in motion. I work with people like you everyday, so yes, I can hear your not so subtle “dog whistle” loud and clearly. Get a grip on reality. I know quite well what “plurality” means, I also know when someone is talking out of the side of their neck, tip-toeing around the “elephant” in the room. None of the posters want to acknowledge that as the majority in the nation, white people receive the most “affirmative action” in every arena, including education, than any other group in the nation. But somehow, whites in higher education are losing out.
Btw, if there is another thread for discussions of race and education, then the OP should have posted his message there. He did not. He interrupted a lone thread of updates on admissions notification dates to issue a dog whistle. I heard it loud and clear, as did others. I posted my response and there it is. Deal or keep it moving.
