Admitted Texas A&M Class of 2029! Whoop

Obviously he’s got a medical diagnosis.
I’d start the paperwork process NOW to get 504 documentation, while still in high school.
Color blindness can fall under a disability for ADA, so I’d seek to get him accommodations, if they’re ever needed at A&M.

Wow! I did not know that. Thank you for letting me know. We will get started right away.

Wow I’m more surprised he got all the way through high school without anyone suggesting a 504! It can make a world of difference to a student.

I wondering if it is because we are in a small private school? I didn’t know that this existed.

Probably so. My youngest has a 504 for dyslexia and ADHD and has lots of accommodations such as extended time on tests, seating at the front of the room, text to speech on the computer. I bet if you research 504 accommodations for color blindness you’ll find the suggested language to ask for.

So my son and I did the Northside and Southside dorm tours today. SO helpful! For the life of me I couldn’t figure out what the style names meant “modular” “ramp” etc. I really don’t understand why everyone loves Hullabaloo so much. I think a modular is much more spacious and sharing a bathroom between two is way better than four. So I’m suggesting Neely and Hobby, and if possible Haas. Is Haas all LLC/honors housing? He was admitted very early so I suspect he’ll get whatever he wants.

Lots of friends are trying to steer us towards apartments but they are either pricey or far. My kid DOES NOT COOK either. World’s pickiest eater. He may survive on Chick-fil-a alone, I dunno.

Do NOT sign off campus lease! Nothing beats being ON campus freshman year! :100:
Modulars are soooo ugly (IMO), but they do have a lot of room. Lechner & McFadden are honors dorms. ResLife website shows which are Ramp, Modular, Commons, Balcony, LLC etc.
Northside fills up faster/more popular vs Southside.
Hullabaloo popular because it is the newest, offers a variety of rooms AND is the only dorm (beside White Creek) that has elevators! Hullabaloo also has Starbucks, mail room and Aggie Express.
A tour is key!

Looking over the after admitted checklist and one item refers to “breakout” sessions for the NSC but none are listed. Does anyone know if those are added later and around when?

According to what mine sees on her checklist it says they should be available around May. “These NSC Breakout Session Selection options will be made available mid-December for January NSCs; and beginning in May for summer conferences”

When and how do they get added to the directory? Do they need to have their TAMU email set up for that-she hasn’t done that yet so not sure if that is the delay. My daughter isn’t showing up in the directory yet and a couple of the FB groups require that to join. She was accepted in the first wave back in September.

Student won’t appear in Aggie Directory-under their major & classification -until NSC/registration.
But their name only should show up when TAMU email & info set up.
Definitely go ahead and have student set up TAMU email.

I don’t personally think the modulars are any uglier than any other dorm or building on campus…they’re all ugly to me LOL And all the Northside modulars are so close to Hullabaloo anyway for Starbucks and such.

I keep hearing their are no building floor plans available at room selection time, is there any way to figure out what the view would be like from various rooms?

No building floor plans available-for safety/security reasons-it’s best to know exact room numbers when selecting, or for sure by floor and odd/even.
For Modulars, it definitely pays to find out odd vs even room sides (they do vary from dorm to dorm). One side of each modular is significantly longer than the other.
If you’re on either of the main Parent pages, use the :mag_right: and search older posts about it-mentioned every year. If you dig around on ResLife page, find the specs for each dorm, you can tell that way, too.
But you’ve got PLENTY of time…

Why are friends trying to steer you toward apartments, curious if they see advantages to them that I hadn’t heard of?

Mine will be going for the on campus White creek apartments. She will do better with her own room and place to cook, but still on campus. They are far, but when we went to tour the bus seemed pretty manageable. If she was doing dorms, she’d probably go for a modular too.

Some of my friends claim the apartments were actually less expensive than the dorm. But those are not Northgate type apartments they are further away AND that child and her roomates cook for themselves a lot, which my son will never do. Some just want their kids to have their own bedrooms and bathrooms.

That makes sense. The apartments in Northgate and on the bus line don’t seem that much cheaper (some even seem more $$) and living further away doesn’t sound very appealing, at least not freshman year for sure.

My son and I went on residence halls tours for North Side, South Side and White Creek Apartments the other day and it was really helpful to see all the different hall styles in person! :+1:

  1. contact disability office and go through their process. Once in place he will still need to let profs know. We (as profs) are not notified that a student with a disability is enrolled in our class. The student has to self identify.
  2. lots of new regulations requiring universal design and accessible materials more so for online classes than traditional classes. I teach for a college online and we have to make sure everything is accessible for everyone regardless of who is enrolled. Closed captions on everything. All images alt tagged. No color coding. Etc.

For NSC, I know that there are designated dates to attend for your specific school/program… is this true also for Fish Camp? Do students from like majors and areas of study go to designated Fish Camp sessions or are these a mix of all students? I tried looking for the answer to this on the Fish Camp website as well as their Facebook page, but couldn’t find any mention about this (which makes me think there is no special school grouping, but just thought I’d ask to be sure!). Thanks for any insights or tips about Fish Camp!

No… there’s not specific fish camp per major or area of study. I would suggest not going with a lot of current friends so that they get out and meet people. Life long friends are made at fish camp if you’re open to it.
