The question is whether you qualify for the scholarship coming into the program the summer before college. Call someone and ask. I know students at my son’s HS who are doing the pre-college activities and they definitely will get the scholarship.

It may seem insulting to some of you if you are OOS, but if you are from WI, you know that minorities in this state have very bad outcomes and the university is doing whatever it can to try to help turn that around. Minorities come to campus and oftentimes feel isolated and overwhelmed. I don’t know what is going on if they are putting high stats minorities into the targeted group along with everyone else. My guess is they are trying to build a base and natural peer group kids can turn to IF THEY WANT TO. None of the later stuff is mandatory I’m sure. If you don’t need that, then that’s fine.

There is very very little scholarship money at UW for non-URMs, so you might feel a tiny bit grateful to have the opportunity to go to school there for the cost of rm/bd. If you have other plans for the summer, some other awesome summer programs or travel with family or whatever, then turn them down.

Or maybe they give you this scholarship?? Full tuition + book stipend.
