Adult dyslexia assessment and treatment?

Yeah, well, then, I see why Davis wouldn’t work for a lot of what they call dyslexics. All it did for D was help her to reorient herself so she could keep the words on the page.

It was the technique for her.

I think so much is so unknown in this area, it’s kind of hit or miss, and a parent with resources like sportsmom and myself are just fortunate enough to be able to find a solution. It takes a lot of looking and persistence, imho. They don’t hand you a useful solution at the start of the “reading” in school, at all. (Maybe things have changed. I hope so.)

Oh, and Sally Shaywitz is a wonderful person in person as well as in her books.

Cant speak to the sepecifics of the Davis method and glad it worked for you, but the professional listserv has stories of wasted time and money modelling clay models of words the student was struggling with, etc. OK- there is something to be said for kinesthetic and/or multimodal learning, but the point I am addressing is that the research isnt there (anecdotal stories do exist) and the intervention may not be directed at the true dyslexics, but perhaps other subsets of disabled readers. Just food for thought.

This is all very interesting information. I will pass it along and store it for future use. Thank you all!
