I am just about to disassemble the Christmas centerpiece we bought at Costco. Wow. It lasted 4 weeks! $20 very well spent.
Related to @BunsenBurner ‘s post above, here’s another giant Costco package needed in every home:

For when the normal two pack of 33.5 oz jars isn’t quite enough! ?
D and I were at Costco last week and we bought the cat tree for her cat. We have been on the lookout for one at Costco for several months and have not been there when they had them. They only had 4 and someone else was buying one when we were. D now has a very happy cat in her little studio apartment!
@LVKris You can also get Costco-branded (Kirkland Select) Nutella. Just as delicious, but cheaper.
That tub of Mac and cheese would be perfect for an earthquake ER stash for a family with kids!
And you thought you were a big Costco fan…

You guys, why doesn’t Costco sell slices of their white bday cake with white frosting!!! Literally, this is my favorite treat in the entire world and would be SO THRILLED to be able to buy just a slice now and then…a slice with a huge frosting balloon on it! I swear, this would a huge hit in the cafe. Come on Costco, help a cake lover out!
@crknwk2000
It is called a “big” box store for a reason, no small portions! :))
@makemesmart no way, they can sell individual slices at the café!!! Come on, Costco!!!
That cake freezes very well! Buy one and cut into slices…and freeze!
Great idea, @crknwk2000! I think you should let management know. It would be a big seller, I’m sure, and promote their cakes at the same time.
I was at Costco yesterday to return our broken American Standard kitchen garbage disposal that didn’t last long. I then purchased the same from Costco except a later model and installed it perfectly when I got home. No leaks anywhere. A few hours later, I checked under the sink, and lo and behold, a puddle of water on the floor. I checked for a leak and found that the leak was only from the bottom of the disposal unit. That means a crap unit. Out of curiosity, I decided to read the customer reviews of it in the Costco’s website. Sure enough, a multiple reviews reporting of the leak out of brand new unit. I need to reinstall it and take it back today. It’s too bad that Costco sells a brand that’s associated with poor quality. At least, returning is never a problem. I’m deciding whether to just get another same unit from Costco since they’ve excellent return policy or get something more reliable.
Get something more reliable. Even if they have a generous return policy why would you want to go through all the hassle of installing and uninstalling, returning which means time and gas money, cleaning up? You don’t get compensated for that effort, right?
^ I never buy hardware from Costco. Home Depot is where I look for plumbing items.
I would 100% buy that sliced cake over churros or whatever else they are selling.
I would never buy a garbage disposal anywhere. Ditto what @abasket said about cake.
I’d say why not a 6x6” piece of cake, so it would be several servings but not as overwhelming as a 1/4 sheet of cake. Just another thought. The local grocery store has a small “picnic cake that is 1/2 as thick as Costco’s and 9x13 or something. They sell enough to keep it a regular item.
Inspired by this site, my DH and I went online and purchased a Costco membership a few weeks ago. We were making a large purchase and found a great price at Costco so went ahead and signed up. We went to the store for the first time today and it was such a disappointment. First getting our actual cards was a fiasco. They could not figure it out even with the printed out paper (as directed) that we took in. They could see that we purchased the membership and see that we were due membership cards but could not complete. Finally they cancelled our first membership then signed us up again. Then the manager stressed out and said “I hope you don’t have any problems with your _____(big purchase) because that membership that you purchased under is no longer valid”. Hoping we don’t have a problem and DH is confident that we will get double billed for the membership but he just wanted to get out of there at that point.
It took us close to 45 minutes to get the cards once we made it to a customer service rep. As they were trying to sort it all out, I was watching the carts leaving and checking out the purchases. I was surprised at how little there was in each cart. I was expecting heaping carts like I see at our other warehouse club.
Then we tried to navigate the store. Not ideal on a Sunday afternoon, although this is when I typically shop BJs Wholesale and my local grocery store. The aisles were a mad house and people were rude and inattentive. We purchased a few grocery items that I would have picked up at BJs for the week: double pack of bread, dozen rolls (we like the store bakery ones at BJs but could not find comparable), fresh fruit, bag salads, roasted chicken, and milk. I looked for my typically purchases from BJs - cereal, fresh chicken, Perdue chicken shortcuts, packaged shredded cheese, fresh italian bread, pasta sauce, frozen meatballs, peirogies, box of Goldfish crackers, protein bars, etc… I either could not find what I was looking for or the items were more expensive then I usually pay. We did not see any bargains or deals that jumped out and after 50 minutes headed for the check out line. We were in line for over 20 minutes to total up a few perishables. The rudeness that we saw in the store was multiplied in line. People were bumping into each other and when they opened another line and personally invited “the next people in line” over, others crowded them out. There was cart pushing and name calling. It was insane.
On the way to the car my DH said never again. He said he will shop big ticket things but it didn’t seem worth it. I am the shopper and I will go back to try again. I was surprised that things were more expensive or larger packaging than my BJs and our Costco has no service deli for fresh sliced lunchmeats and cheeses. That is one of the best parts of BJs. I wish that they had signage. They don’t take coupons. They close early on Saturday nights. I am not sure how much we will get out of our membership.
I read through this entire thread and was excited for the adventure. When we were in line I noticed a lady with 25 -35 boxes of Calvin Klein bras, her cart was full. There were 2 bras to a pack. I hadn’t seen them and asked her the price, $19.99 for 2. That seemed like a great price and if it hadn’t been such a zoo I would have gone back to take a look (not sure she left any!! DH said she was going to post them all for resale on ebay. I said she must have a lot of daughters!)
Since I didn’t get our lunchmeat and was missing some meal staples I now have to head back out to the store tonight or tomorrow after work.
Speaking of the Costco grab and go food spot…do you ever use it? Take something to go?
I know they are famous for their hot dogs - I’ve never had one - are they Costco sized?!
I think the only thing I’ve had is the frozen yogurt once or twice when D2 was a little younger and maybe some type of coffee something - maybe frozen? Again, only once.
Of course, I’ve sampled the pizza - but never bought a ready made one to take home.
@bamamom2021 - I’m sorry you had such a bad experience. I love our Costco, but different stores have different vibes. I’ve been in bad ones before, where even the parking lot is crazy. I’m not sure if I could blame Costco for that, but they should have at least had better customer service and checkout line management.
You should post your experience to their corporate headquarters.
