Those are great tips but I’m sure the majority of customers don’t utilize them.
Well CC’ers can apply the tips now!
Unnecessary, but so is driving around wasting time and energy and overpaying for apples. I shop for food once a week. Once. No driving here and there - just straight line to Costco and back. Maybe a stop at TJ’s if I don’t hit the one in U-District. Walk to pick up yogurt. BTW, my favorite Costco apples come in a bag, not a clamshell tray. If people were not rough-handling produce, those clamshells would not be needed. Touch and squeeze an apple and see it develop a brown spot. Yup. Just last weekend I observed a guy pawing -every. single. one! - 3-pack of cucumbers. Ugh. They all were about the same and good for taking. Wasted produce is just as bad for the environment as wasted packaging.
Love Costco but really wish their packaging is more environmental friendlier - less plastic!
Sad that our Costco discontinued the avocado oil in glass containers.
“Wasted produce is just as bad for the environment as wasted packaging.”
Both suck but one isn’t on the same level as unnecessary plastic which has serious environmental and health effects. I’m sorry but I just don’t see the justification here from encasing apples in plastic.
Costco has its good points but they could use some improvement in the area of environmentally friendly packaging. I wish, as an industry leader, they’d step up their game and commit to changes. I’m not alone in my concerns. I know many here are Costco loyalists but that doesn’t change the fact that Costco uses more packaging than many food retailers and there is definitely room for improvement.
Soooo… back to Costco items… They used to sell men’s wool slacks that my DH loved. They are seasonal, but they have been hard to find and not consistently in stores. The website currently only has verey large/odd sizes in stock. Has anyone seen the Kirkland mens flat front wool slacks in their store?
Not in our stores… I also have been looking. And dang they were out of men’s dress socks - those was also on my shopping list.
What are the men’s socks brand? I’ll check one of our stores.
Thanks jym. I don’t even know what brand they were! They came in 3-packs, and it has been a while since I got them. They definitely lasted. Will try Nordstrom Rack tonight.
If you recal the brand (maybe check the website), am happy to check for you.

Haven’t read 30 pages of discussion, but we recently discovered Costco Pharmacy and moved all our medications there. They take both, insurances and have their own negotiated prices. Our savings are very large.
Many times we found that Costco pharmacy would be cheaper than RiteAid with or without insurance. Insurance refused to cover a topical muscle pain med… Costco to the rescue. $25 instead of $200 or so. Same generic crap.
I have never been a member of a Costco.
My eye doctor is retiring. I’ll be due for an exam and ordering contacts around the first of the year.
I’m feeling inertia setting in. Should I go to Target optical? Join Costco & go there? Find another private practice?
Ugh. Somebody tell me what to do.
Haha!
The eye doctors at Costco are not costco employees. Usually (state law varies) you can see the doctor without being a member. Ordering glasses or contacts does require a membership.
I’ve been happy with Costco for glasses but I’m happy with Costco for LOTS of things so think the membership is worth it.
I wish we had a Costco in Maine!
We drive 2 hrs to one, so in good weather we go for glasses, hearing aides, supplies like tomato sauce, pasta.
^Ha, I just googled it and the Costco nearest to us is a drive of one hour, 59 minutes.
I just got Costco’s generic Sudafed for $1.69 and it worked just was well as the name brand and as the generic sold at Walmart. Woohoo!
Anyone know off hand if epipens are any cheaper at Costco?
